Lou B. Schoonover

Lou B. Schoonover, 97, of Turlock, was born on July 18, 1912 to Ernest and Chlora Clem in Amarillo, Texas. She lived in Kansas during her early years and attended Pratt Schools. She graduated from Pratt High School and married Orville Schoonover. She and her husband had a daughter and a son. Lou was widowed in May of 1993, just eight days before their 62nd wedding anniversary. Lou was a member of Denair Friends Church, an associate member of Friends Bible College (Barclay) in Haviland, Kansas, and a charter member of Mission Aviation Fellowship Foundation for many years.

Lorrayne Eleanor Stafford

Lorrayne Eleanor Stafford was born on June 24, 1917, and after 93 years of life, laughter and love, she left this world and returned to our Lord. Lorrayne grew up in Turlock and lived most of her life in Modesto with her husband of 56 years, Keary Edward Stafford. She was a lifelong member of the Modesto Covenant Church and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Turlock. Henrietta Chaves Pereira

Henrietta Chaves Pereira, 67, of Atwater, died on June 24 in Merced. She was born in Espirito Santo, Santa Maria, Azores. When she moved to California, she became a radio broadcaster for K.I.G.S in Hanford. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Atwater and of the Y.L.I in Merced. She loved to be with her family, talk on the radio station, and help people attain their citizenships and drivers licenses. She was very active and will be greatly missed.

Clifton “Clif” Stark

Clif was born in 1932 to Foster and Lorena Stark in New Mexico. After high school, he played professional AAA baseball for the Santa Barbara Dodgers and was offered a scholarship to USC, which he declined so that he could join the United States Marine Corps. He served his country during the Korean War. Later, Clif worked for Scranton and Qualle and Joseph Gallo Farms. He was on the Hughson Planning Commission, belonged to the Odd Fellows, was a wood craftsman, and enjoyed coaching Little League.

Robert James Kearney

Robert "Bob" Kearney passed away on Saturday, June 26 at Emanuel Hospital. Bob was born in Sonora and spent several years working as a bartender at Manjo's and Staley's in Turlock. Bob was a veteran of World War II in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great grand children.

Albert I. Adams

Turlock's oldest living native and first Assyrian born in Turlock, Albert Adams, was born Oct. 9, 1912 to parents Dr. Isaac and Sarah Adams. One of eight children, Albert graduated from Turlock High School, Modesto Junior College and attended the University of Southern California. Ruby Lavada Sousa, a long time Merced resident, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Wednesday, June 16. Ruby was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Clarksville, Texas to J.D. and Annie Magby. Ruby's passions were cooking, making flower arrangements and collecting elephant figurines. She proudly worked for the last six years for the City of Merced at the Merced Community Senior Center. Yeichi Sakaguchi

Yeichi Sakaguchi was born in Santa Clara to Chokichi and Maju Sakaguchi, Japanese immigrants. As a young boy, the family moved to Turlock to farm in the Cortez area. Yeichi attended local schools and graduated from Livingston High School and Modesto Junior College. Howard Burton Keup

Howard Keup, 77, of Turlock, was born in Nebraska to Louis and Lula Keup in 1932. He was raised in Nebraska and Wyoming. The family moved to Delhi before Howard started high school. He graduated from Livingston High School, and after graduation in November of 1953, he married Cleta Taylor. Howard was an outdoors-man. He loved hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed animals. His family has many good memories of "Papa" with his chickens and also his jelly beans.
