A vigil-rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 1, also at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias. A funeral mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Turlock. It will be officiated by Father Luis Navarro. Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park.

Catherine Guzman Robledo, a resident of Newman for 50 years, passed away peacefully at Brandel Manor of Emanuel in Turlock on Sept. 27 surrounded by her loving family and friends at the age of 84.
David Allain passed away at his home in Turlock following complications of multiple sclerosis. Born in Los Angeles to Lawrence and Mary Allain, he graduated from Royal High School in Simi Valley in 1973. He followed in the footsteps of his father's family in construction while taking courses at Moorpark College, and later worked in Yosemite National Park and Hawaii.
Mary Burt, 79, of Turlock passed away Sept. 23 at Emanuel Medical Center. She was born in May 1930 to John and Lillie Vines in Beaver Dam, NC. She lived in New York City from 1950 to 1984, before moving to California. She met Ken Klein while living in San Jose in 1987. They were companions ever since. They moved to Turlock in 1999.
Edward D. Hill, 78, of Merced, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock on Sept. 24. He was born in Muskogee, Okla. to Lola and Opal Hill. The family moved to the Modesto area when Edward was a young boy. He served in the Army during WW II and became an active member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW. He loved his family, and he also loved to fish and play pool.
Phil Short, 73, of Hughson, passed away at Doctors Medical Center with his family by his side. Phil was born and raised in the Modesto and Hughson area. In 1953, Phil graduated from Hughson High, and moved forward to attend UC Berkeley, where he majored in Engineering and played football for the Golden Bears.
Jeanette I. (Breazeale) Zurilgen passed away at the Hospice House in Hughson after a brief illness. Jeanette was a Modesto native and lived here most of her life. She attended Modesto High School until she married her husband, Albert Zurilgen, and they moved to San Jose. They moved back to Modesto in 1980. She was widowed in 1986, after 30 years of marriage to her husband Bert. She worked for a time at Lee Brothers Stationery in Turlock after being widowed. She tried marriage once again to Theron Gilbert, who also left her a widow after four years of marriage.
Mildred Serpa passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2009. She was 92 years old. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Service in Turlock. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the same location. Mass will start at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock. Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park.
Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Rufino Guillen was called to his eternal life on Sept. 22, 2009.
Julia was born in Vermont to Joseph and Mary Spinelli. For 40 years of her life she lived in San Francisco. In 1998, she moved to Modesto, and for the last two years she lived in Turlock. She especially loved to read, watch all of her soaps, TV game shows, and do crossword puzzles. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church of San Francisco.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar. A mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 25 at the same location. Burial will be at N. Hilmar District Cemetery.
Bob Raab, 74, of Modesto, passed away at home with his family at his side on Sept. 21. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 26 at First United Methodist Church in Modesto.
Laura passed away in Hilmar at the age of 94. Laura was born in Arnesen, Rocky Point, Minnesota to Bernard and Agnes Arnesen. She graduated from business college in Duluth, Minnesota and moved to San Francisco. Laura worked as a personal secretary to the President of Garnett Young & Co. After marrying her Navy husband Arthur, they lived in Oakland for 12 years, then moved to Livermore where Arthur worked.
Robert M. Caires peacefully passed away quietly at Paramount Senior Living in Turlock at the age of 84. Born July 19, 1930 in Oakland, Bob served 4 years in the US Naval Reserve from 1948 – 1952, during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he attended business colleges, Foothill and San Jose State Colleges. He joined the Internal Revenue Service as an agent in 1960 where he worked for 36 years until retiring. Born in Oronogo, Missouri August 27, 1934 to Carroll and Maude Weathers, she spent much of her childhood in Bisbee Arizona before her family moved to Los Angeles following the death of her father. There, She graduated from Manual Arts High School, and attended college at Bob Jones University in South Carolina, where she began dating Donald Shaw. They married in 1955, and settled in Turlock in 1962 after Donald had completed his Masters at UCLA .
Lucille Joyce Wells died December 7, 2014, at Brandel Manor in Turlock. Joyce, as she was known to her family and friends, was born February 4, 1933, to Henry and Marie Schoonhoven (nee Hoogeveen) in Steen, MN. At the age of 9, she moved with her family to Ripon, CA, graduating from Ripon High School, to begin work as a secretary and later an office manager for various locally owned companies.

Joanne Miller (75) of Lathrop, CA, passed away November 29, 2014 in San Diego, CA. Born August 14, 1939 in Placerville, CA, She is predeceased by her parents, Robert A. Rushing of Tuolumne, CA and Alice D. Thomas of Stockton, CA, and her late husband, S. Ross Miller of Turlock, CA. Joanne went to Stockton College and graduated in 1957.
