Nova Menzies, 89, was born to Robert and Mary Wattle in Caruthersville, MO. They moved to Indio, Calif. after World War II and then soon moved on to Turlock. Nova worked in the food service industry and at a local doughnut shop for years. In 1976, she married Vernon Menzies and together they worked long days six days a week to keep the Penguin Ice Cream Company going. They traveled around in their own plane when they were able to take breaks from their work schedule. They belonged to the Turlock VFW.
Laercio Jose Amorim, 54, of Turlock, died Dec. 29 at Emanuel Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 West Main St., Turlock. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias. Prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan 4 at the same location. Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park.
June Ann Wurm, 62, of Denair, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 27 after an 18-year struggle with cancer. She stepped through the door of eternity at her home, while she was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 9, 1947, to Elmer and Hazel Nyquist of Turlock. She graduated from Turlock High School in 1965. She graduated in 1967 with an AA degree in Home Economics from Modesto Junior College, where she met her husband, Bob Wurm. Ella Talkington of Turlock passed away on Dec. 26 on the day of her 89th birthday. She was born to Anton and Annie Vrh in Saskatchewan, Canada. She moved from Canada to Turlock with her parents at the age of 3 1⁄2 and lived there until her death.
