Cliff McBeath, 88, of Turlock, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Lady, on Tuesday, Feb. 16. He was born in Humboldt, Kansas to James and Elsie McBeath. He lived most of his adult life in California. He lived and worked in San Bernardino for years as a carpenter. Cliff retired in 1982, after working as the head of maintenance for the California State Dept of Agriculture at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds for 27 years. Robert H. Gomer passed away Feb. 16 at St. Francis Assisted Living in Turlock. Bob was born and raised in Wichita Falls, Texas to Robert Sr. of Tennessee and Myrtle ne Watson of Texas. He moved to Turlock with his wife, Winifred (Winnie), and his daughter, Roberta, in 1950, after serving in the Pacific as a gunner on US Navy Destroyer USS Sumner during WW II. Bob bought Turlock Marble and Granite Works after his father-in-law, Sam Thomas, retired. He operated the business for 40 plus years.
Emily M. Peera, 71, of Modesto passed away on Monday, Feb. 15 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Baghdad, Iraq to Samuel and Souria Peera in 1938. In 1962, she moved to New Britain, Conn. and settled in Modesto in 1995. Emily enjoyed arts and crafts, traveling and the arts.

Paul Sanborn, 56, of Turlock passed away in Modesto at Doctor's Medical Center on Wednesday, Feb. 17. He was born in Turlock to Don and Helen Sanborn in 1953. Paul grew up in Turlock and graduated from Turlock High School in 1972. He worked as an electrician for 35 years. He enjoyed building model rockets, playing tennis and pitching in local softball leagues.
Eva Higdon passed away on Saturday, Feb. 13, after a brief stay at the Alexander T. Cohen House. She was one of five daughters born to Della and Joseph Carrington in Tiptonville, Tenn. Eva devoted her life to her family. She was a hard-working and independent mother who always made the health and happiness of her children her first priority. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, picking peaches and canning her own fruits and vegetables. Eva loved game shows and playing cards, Dominoes, Bingo and Yahtzee!

Lois Slocum, 91, of Turlock, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on Saturday. She was born in Akron, Ohio to Fred and Emma Davidson in 1918. Lois attended schools and graduated from high school in Akron before moving to California at the age of 24. She worked in secretarial positions for her church and the Presbyterian denomination for years. The Church and its mission was always very important to Lois and her husband. Aurea Silveira Alvarado passed away at home unexpectedly. Aurea was born in Pico, Azores to Manuel and Maria DaSilveira. She came to the U.S. in 1957 at the age of 40. Aurea had dreamed all of her life of coming to America, and finally made the journey here. Though she continued to travel to the Azores to visit annually, she made California her home.

Bob Johnson, 80, of Turlock, passed away after a short illness at Alexander Cohen Hospice House. He was born to Werner and Ingrid Johnson in San Francisco. He graduated from Balboa High School in San Francisco. He married Vivian Hilscher in April of 1949. Shortly afterward, Bob joined the National Guard and later the U.S. Army. In his earlier years, Bob worked in wholesale hardware sales, then he was a wholesale salesman in the paper industry. He sold paper supplies to retail and restaurant businesses for 35 years.
