Lucille Lorene Nelson was born on her mother's birthday at home near Dudley, Missouri, the youngest daughter of Clarence G. and Cecil Wright Teulker. She enjoyed her early childhood years playing on her grandparents' ranch near Dudley, climbing trees, running to the woods, following her pet "watch goose," and spending time in the kitchen with the cook.
Sublimity, OR- Lois Lilybelle Johnson, longest, living native of Turlock, recognized during Turlock's 2008 Centennial, passed away on February 23, 2013 at the home of Janet, her daughter and Ralph Todd.
Alexander Santos Moreno II, 33 of Turlock, passed away unexpectedly at home last Friday. Alex was born in Hayward, CA on November 16, 1979 to Alexander Moreno, Sr. and Oralia Vasquez. Alex graduated from Job Corps in Nevada, worked locally as a forklift operator for several years and has lived in the Turlock area more than 20 years.
Donald Rex Rider was born on July 11, 1944 in San Rafael, California, and died on February 19, 2013 in Stockton, California. He was the son of Robert Rex Rider and Ethelene Marie Casey-Rider. Don leaves behind three sisters, Janice Maliepaard, of Turlock, Dona Reynolds, of Modesto, and Cindy Miller, of Pacific Grove. He was married and has two children, Raymie and Rod Rider, both of Modesto. Don also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He remarried later and leaves behind a family in Stockton.
Florence was born in San Francisco, California to Karl and Josephine Sandstrom. They moved to Turlock when she was three. Until last year she lived on the original home property, first as a daughter, then as a wife and mother. She attended Cal Berkeley and returned to teach at Turlock High School where she met Vincent Keesey. They married in 1951 and had four children: Sandy, John, Diane and Cathy. Rose was born in Denair, CA on August 18, 1936 and passed away on February 15, 2013. She is survived by her children Raymond Otto, Wanda Harlan, Erin Vandergriff and their spouses. She was grandma, great grandma, mema and nana to so many. Rose will be remembered as someone special and the world may be a better place because she was important in the life of a child.
Sushan Yegor, 82, of Turlock, passed away at Alexander Cohen Hospice House. Sushan was born in Gavellon, Iran to Eromya and Mary Yedager. She grew up on a farm where they grew grapes and almonds. The family also had a restaurant. At the age of 17 she married her life partner, Petros Yegor, and they had 4 children. In 1969 they moved to America and settled in Turlock. Darlene Edna Crafts ~ 85 of Merced passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on Saturday. Darlene was born in Nebraska to Ernest and Edna Edwards and has lived in Merced for nearly 60 years. Darlene and her late husband Fire Captain John Leonard Crafts ~ aka (Jack) were dedicated to their community. Jack worked for the Merced Fire Dept. for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1981; Darlene was a dedicated employee of the Merced School District, employed for over 35 years, retiring in 1989.
Carlene Anna Voight was born in Turlock, CA to Karl and Bertha Whipkey and lived almost her entire life in Stanislaus County. Raised with her two brothers Ronald and Richard, the only time Carlene lived outside the county was for 14 months when her family lived in Alaska.
Carol Hawkins passed away peacefully at home, on April 21st, 2015 at the age of 98. She was the youngest of four girls born to G.W. and Emily Scholl in Seattle, Washington, and grew up near Lake Washington. She loved the clam-digging summers at her family's summer home on Bainbridge Island.
Lilly (Liz) Cole was born in Madera, CA on March 12, 1940. She passed away in Merced on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the age of 75. Lilly worked for over 30 years as a waitress. One of her favorite past times were her shopping trips to Wal*Mart. The most important thing in her life was her children and grandchildren. Lilly loved baking and decorating cakes. During the holidays her family members would all stop by to pick up their goodie plates of cookies and candies.
