She is survived by her children: Calvin (Eileen) Olson in Modesto; Kathy (Michael) Rossmann in Grand Junction, CO; Joyce (Mark) Koontz in Richmond, VA; and Dean (Joyce) Olson in Santa Clara; sister Ruth Rupel in LaVerne; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Olson and four siblings.
Dorothy L. Hammond, 91, passed away at Paramount Court in Turlock. She was the third of four children born in Archer County, TX, to Myla and John Mark Towles. Her siblings were older brother Raymond, who died while piloting a plane during WWII, older sister Rena, now deceased, and younger sister Marklene, who died as a child.
Evelyn Erikson passed away in Modesto at the age of 90 on January 9, 2015. A native of Turlock, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Arthur and Emma Erickson. She attended Turlock High School and was life-long member of the Turlock Covenant Church. She is the sister of the late Gloria Harmon of Modesto. Evelyn is survived by her brother, Gordon Erickson, of El Paso, TX; her niece, Sabrina Harmon, of Medford, MA; her nephew, Michael Harmon, of Modesto: and her great nephew, Eric Harmon, also of Modesto. A private memorial will held at a later date.
Chano Tovar peacefully passed away January 7, 2015 at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife Diana Tovar, daughter Erica Tovar, son Lucas (Anna) Tovar, grandchildren Noah and Ayden, brothers Adam, Joe and Jeff Tovar, sister Michelle Johnson and mother Rachel Tovar. He is preceded in death by his father Adam Tovar and sister Sandra Medeiros.
Laurence was born in Sioux City, IA and was raised on a farm in Waterbury Nebraska and attended school there. He was in the Navy for two years during World War II, when he returned home he farmed for 2 years and then came to California in 1956. In 1959 he married Eleanor Skiles and together they shared 56 years of marriage. Laurence worked for the City of Turlock for 16 years and Turlock High School for 12 years.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her father Curtis Chastain. She is survived by her husband Rick Treat; mother Ila Chastain; sister Yonona Roach; daughters Sarah Wass (Jason) and Laura Treat; and grandchildren Sadie (8), Kallie (5) and Rhett Wass (3). A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am Thurs. Jan. 8, 2014 at Merced First Assembly of God, 1350 Yosemite Pkwy, Merced CA 95341. A reception will follow immediately at the Elks Lodge 1910 "M" Street, Merced CA 95340.
Born and raised in Turlock CA. Volunteered at 17 to serve in US Armed Forces in the Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He acquired his Master Degree at UOP and went on to work at San Quentin State Prison Stanislaus Sheriff Department, and later was a Director of Facilities in the hospital industry in Las Vegas, NV for 15 years. Katherine is survived by her children Jennifer Martinez, Jamie Martinez and Frank Martinez; siblings Kristen Skinner, Kimberly King and Mike Nielsen; grandchildren Jayden Llimet, Jasmine Martinez, Hailey Wilson, Jacob, Chelsea and Natasha Harris; great-grandchild Markie Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. Katherine is preceded in death by her parents John and Paula Nielsen.
