Ernie passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 84 in San Ramon, CA following an extended illness. He was born in Turlock, where he lived virtually his entire life. After receiving an AA degree from Modesto Junior College, Ernie joined the Air Force as a cartographer during the Korean War. Donnel D. Gray, 84, of Delhi, passed away on Oct. 11, 2012 after an extended illness. Donnel was born in Arkansas in 1927, the fourth of nine children. In 1944 he moved to California and the following year he enlisted in the US Navy where he served honorably from 1945-48.

Ed Backman, 87, of Denair, passed away at Doctor's Medical Center after extended illnesses. Ed was born at Emanuel Hospital in Turlock to Pete and Ruth (Alldrin) Backman. The family lived on Golf Link Road when Ed grew up. As a young man he had a job as a farmhand and he walked to a neighboring farm to milk cows. Hedwig "Hedy" Marie Bucher ~ 91, passed away in the comfort of her home on Tuesday. Hedy was born in Switzerland to Plazi and Maria Giger-Marbach. After completing high school, Hedy put herself through business school, becoming a very successful in her career path. At 40, Hedy's life took a dramatic change; newly married to Hans Bucher, she traded in her big city life in Switzerland for life on a farm in Hilmar, California. Dorothy Audas, 82, of Hilmar, passed away at her home after an extended illness. Dorothy was born in Arkansas. She was one of six children born to George and Lillie Smith. The family moved to Gilroy, California in 1937 looking for a better life working with the WPA. Later they moved to Emeryville, Waterford, and then settled in Hughson. Dorothy worked for several years in the production of Mother's Cookies. Later she and her husband owned an optical shop in Hilmar. Dorothy was a beautiful person with a heart for God and for people around her.

Lloyd Donald Ballard

Lloyd "Don" Ballard, 85 of Turlock, California, passed away on September 6, 2012 due to a long illness. Don was born on January 25, 1927 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In January of 1945, he left school during his senior year to serve his country in World War II as a Navy Seaman First Class. After his service ended Don returned to Turlock High School and graduated with the class of 1947.

Mary Lois Bare

Mary Lois Bare, 91, of Hilmar, passed away at Turlock Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mary Lois was born in Arkansas to Julius and Thelma Wegel. She attended schools in Arkansas. After High School graduation she married Charles Bare, a Seaman with the Merchant Marine. They settled in California, first in the Bay Area and then in the Central Valley in 1968. They were married nearly 62 years when he passed away in 2005.

Bobbie Cheves, 87, of Turlock passed away peacefully on February 18, 2015. Bobbie was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma. When she was young, her family moved to Pittsburg, CA. As a senior in high school, Bobbie moved to Modesto where she graduated from Modesto High School. She married Gene in 1947 and they raised their family in Ceres, CA. Pete Stavrianoudakis

Pete Stavrianoudakis, passed away last Saturday at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 28, 1936 to Pantelis and Maria Stavrianoudakis. He was a lifelong resident of Hilmar, where he attended grammar school and graduated from Hilmar High School. Pete was a farmer in Hilmar for most of his life and was involved with several community organizations including, Hilmar FFA, Valley Tractor Pullers Association, Hilmar Footbal Boosters and was a member of the Hilmar Lions Club since 1968. He was also a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Modesto.

William Joseph Larson “Bill”

Bill was born and raised in Turlock. He graduated from Turlock High School in 1971 and CSU Stanislaus in 1975. Bill was very active in sports throughout his school years, playing basketball and baseball and later traveling overseas with Athletes in Action and Sports Ambassadors. Bill was an evangelist for all of his adult life. He started evangelism classes at Monte Vista Chapel and enjoyed teaching Bible studies. Bill gave generously of himself to others, investing in their lives. He was a substitute teacher with Turlock School District for many years.
