Grace Haidar, 6 ½ of Turlock, died April 5. She was born Oct. 13, 2004 in Turlock. She is the daughter of David and Lina Haidar.
Zona M. Stafford, a long-time resident of Denair and Turlock, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday. Born in 1919 in Turlock to the late Benjamin and Jessie Rude, Zona married Robert K. Stafford in 1937. She belonged to the Church of Christ in Turlock and made the Lord the first on her list. She loved her family and cared for her friends. Her interests included crocheting, playing cards, camping and most of all she enjoyed fishing.
Helena Melo, 89, of Turlock died Tuesday at Emanuel Hospital in Turlock. She was a resident of Turlock and lived in Stanislaus County for 44 years. She was a homemaker, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Turlock and Our Lady of Fatima Society of Turlock. She loved to cook for everyone and enjoyed her garden with many plants and flowers. She also loved to read and crochet. Her family was her joy. She was always full of wisdom and good wishes of advice that filled their hearts with prayers and laughter. God was always first and her strength.
James Short, 55, of Hughson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at his residence in Hughson. He was born in 1956 in Turlock to Phillip and Kay Short. He was raised in Hughson and graduated from Hughson High School in 1974. He attended Modesto Junior College. He became a welder and had a career in heavy construction. James attended Waterford Foursquare Church. He was a cowboy, and loved leading pack trips into the wilderness. He was also artistic and creative with his welding, making metal sculptures and decor.
Bulmaro Jaimes Rodriguez, 45, of Delhi, died Tuesday in Merced. He was a farm laborer for 10 years and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Turlock.
Mary Elizabeth Baker, 81, of Modesto passed away peacefully Wednesday at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital in Modesto.
Chiyoji "Chester" Takahashi, 86, of Livingston passed away at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital in Merced on Tuesday. Chester was born in 1924 to Seiichiro and Sei Takahashi in Livingston. He graduated from Livingston High School. Chester was interned at the Merced Assembly Center and Amache, Colo. Relocation Center. He served in the Army during WW II from 1944 to 1947. During the war, he served in Italy and France in the Japanese/American 442 Infantry. He was a farmer for over 65 years. H was a member of the Japanese American Citizens League and the Livingston Farmers Association.
Youaf Tarvedi, 91, passed away on March 29 in Citrus Heights. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emily; his sons, Fred (Rachel) of Jacksonville, Fla., Benny (Tracey) of Wichita, Kansas and Maxim of Desert Palms, Calif.; his daughter, Mariana of Citrus Heights; and grandchildren, David, Danielle, Brandon and Brian.
