Melvin "Mel" Westbrook, of Turlock, died at age 92 on Dec. 22.
Roy Bernell Hirschkorn passed away Dec. 24, 2014 after a long illness. Roy was born July of 1938, in Turlock CA, and was a life-long resident. In his younger years Roy was a member of the Turlock Junior Marching Band and continued to play and enjoy music throughout his life.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her 5 siblings, and her son Rockie in 2013. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, J. Wayne Shackelford, her sons Gilbert Shackelford and Rodney Shackelford, both of Turlock, daughter-in-law Melanie Shackelford of Magna, Utah; 4 grandchildren: Tommy (Elaine) Shackelford of Sacramento, Erin (Kevin) Elser of Magna, Utah; Jack (Sarah) Shackelford, and Ruben Shackelford, both of Turlock; and 2 great-grandchildren: Olivia Elser of Magna, Utah and Clara Shackelford of Turlock.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Joy Wenstrand, age 71, died December 27, 2014, in Sacramento, California.
Barbara Miranda, 77, of Turlock, passed away peacefully at Alexander Cohen Hospice House after an extended illness.
Rodrigo Manuel Rodrigues passed away on Wednesday December 17th, 2014. Rod was born on October 31st, 1952 in Pico, Azores. Moved to Tracy, CA with his parents and siblings in 1967, then made Modesto his permanent residence. One of his many accomplishments was managing their family dairy with his father as a young adult, which lead him to owning and handling many rental properties. Rod enjoyed working hard to provide for his family. He married Sylvia Cisneros-Rodrigues in 2000. Rod loved family, fishing, dancing and traveling. He also enjoyed being a foster parent; raising 31 boys since 2001.
A Celebration of Life service for this gentle man of integrity will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Shelter Cove Community Church, 4242 Coffee Rd. in Modesto.
Laura passed away in Hilmar at the age of 94. Laura was born in Arnesen, Rocky Point, Minnesota to Bernard and Agnes Arnesen. She graduated from business college in Duluth, Minnesota and moved to San Francisco. Laura worked as a personal secretary to the President of Garnett Young & Co. After marrying her Navy husband Arthur, they lived in Oakland for 12 years, then moved to Livermore where Arthur worked.
Robert M. Caires peacefully passed away quietly at Paramount Senior Living in Turlock at the age of 84. Born July 19, 1930 in Oakland, Bob served 4 years in the US Naval Reserve from 1948 – 1952, during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he attended business colleges, Foothill and San Jose State Colleges. He joined the Internal Revenue Service as an agent in 1960 where he worked for 36 years until retiring. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Huber. Arlene is survived by her children: George Huber, Gloria McCormick, Linda Stopher, William Huber, Robert Huber, Mary Vieira; and 19 grandchildren. She has one surviving sibling, Kenneth Troutman, whom she loved dearly.
Anne Shaw, 80, of Turlock, CA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Born in Oronogo, Missouri August 27, 1934 to Carroll and Maude Weathers, she spent much of her childhood in Bisbee Arizona before her family moved to Los Angeles following the death of her father. There, She graduated from Manual Arts High School, and attended college at Bob Jones University in South Carolina, where she began dating Donald Shaw. They married in 1955, and settled in Turlock in 1962 after Donald had completed his Masters at UCLA .
Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie Ann Sorensen Green; two sons Roger (Nancy) Green of Modesto, and Douglas (Dee) Green of Vacaville, son-in-law Melvin (Barbara) Bradley of Oakdale, three grandchildren: Cheryle (Raquel) Fleming-Bradley of Clovis, Ryan Green and Jason Green of Modesto; a great-grandson Tanner Bradley, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at Mar Addai Church of the East on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10 am with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
Baljit is survived by her husband Gurbachan Sandhu, and four children: Harjit Bhatti, Daljit Lehal, Parmjit Sanhu, and Gurdip Sandhu.
She is survived by her children: Calvin (Eileen) Olson in Modesto; Kathy (Michael) Rossmann in Grand Junction, CO; Joyce (Mark) Koontz in Richmond, VA; and Dean (Joyce) Olson in Santa Clara; sister Ruth Rupel in LaVerne; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Olson and four siblings.
