Linda Lee Parmley died suddenly this week in Crows Landing, CA. She was 66. Linda was born in Turlock, CA to the late Manuel and Victoria Bettencourt in 1950. She is a graduate of Hilmar High School and was married to loving husband Ernie Parmley. Linda worked for the Stanislaus County Clerks Recorders Office for 19 years. Linda loved working outside in her garden, rooting for the 49ers, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a very kind, generous, and creative person and will be missed by all who knew her.
Billie Jo (Jody) Nickell, a strong-willed wonderful wife and mother was born in Jay, Oklahoma in the winter of 1932 to Willie and Elsie Goss. Billie was married to Joe, the love of her life for 61 years, and they had two sons Mike and Darrin.
Donald Paul Pendergrass, an amazing human being, husband, father and son, passed away after a tragic accident. Born in Modesto, CA, Donald never was seen with a frown on his face as he was always smiling. He was a hard worker and jokester who loved life. Donald would stop whatever he was doing to help anyone whether he knew them or not.
Hazel M. Rehana was born in the fall of 1938 in Hulburt Oklahoma. The youngest child to Joseph and Margaret Johnston, Hazel married the love of her life, William, in January of 1971 and together they raised their families. Hazel loved her family with all her heart and she will be deeply missed.
Joe was born in Oakdale and grew up on the West Side (Newman, Gustine and Stevinson). He served in the Navy during WWII, allowing him the privilege of seeing the flag raised on Iwo Jima. He married Loreta (Rita) Lowe in 1947 and raised four children while a mechanic for Nutcher's Tractor, Leduc Ford and Tri Valley Growers. In 1972, in addition to his mechanic duties at TVG, Joe began farming walnuts in Gustine, in 1999 Joe sold the walnut ranch and moved to Turlock to enjoy complete retirement.
Willie Durand Porter, 64, passed away on January 17, 2017. He was the widower of Deborah Renell Porter. Willie is survived by his five children, La Tasha, Rosa, Julia, Ashley, William Jr. and his seven grandchildren.
Jeanette passed away from cancer very unexpectedly. She graduated from Turlock High School in 1953. Her passion was music, singing in the Mixed Chorus, Girls Glee, Choir and the Girls Octet. She loved driving her 1936 Plymouth with her crazy friends and having fun. She met the love of her life Louie Aja in Turlock when he and his Navy buddy Mel Oliveira were cruising Main St! James (Jim) A. Whitaker, Jr., lifelong resident of Turlock, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, surrounded by his children. He was 72 years old and born in Turlock to Jim and Alfreida Whitaker on November 13, 1944.
