Lena Date, 90, of Turlock/Modesto, passed away at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson after a long illness. Lena was born in El Monte, CA to Harry and Yaeno Hananouchi. She grew up much of her time in Pescadero, CA. In 1942, during World War II, her family was relocated to Tanforan Race Track in San Bruno then later sent to an internment camp in Topaz, Utah for the duration of the war. Richard Allen Root, 89, died September 18, 2014, at Elness Convalescent in Turlock. He was born March 21, 1925, in Los Angeles, California, to Frank and Emma (Berger) Root. At the age of 18 enlisted in the United States Army in the 558th Artillery Battalion. After his Honorable Discharge he settled in Turlock and attended Full Gospel Tabernacle before attending Victory Christian Church in Hilmar. He worked 25 years for Nulaid then retired from Martinez Plywood after 12 years.
