Vivian Raineri, 86, of Modesto, passed away at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital in Modesto. She was born in Roseburg, Ore. to Henry and Muriel McGuckin. The family moved to Napa, where Vivian completed her schooling and began her career as a journalist and author. She wrote for the Bay Area Bureau of the Peoples' World Newspaper. She was politically astute and active with the Women for Peace in Berkeley, where she lived most of her life. Vivian authored the book "The Red Angel," a biography of Elaine Yoneda, a lady who served time in an internment camp during World War II.
Violet Lynn, 82, of Turlock was born in Denair to John and Evelena Baptista. She was a lifelong resident of the Turlock area. She is survived by her daughter, Cathee Lynn of Turlock.

Leslie Johnson, 93, of Turlock died peacefully at home with devoted family by his side. Leslie was born in Newman Grove, Neb. to the late Oscar and Fairy Johnson. He graduated from Newman Grove High School and worked on the family farm before moving to Turlock. Leslie worked in various farming positions until his enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served as a sergeant in four campaigns in the Pacific during World War II until his return in 1945. Alex Schwendig slipped into the presence of his loving heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 20 at the Covenant Village Care Center in Turlock. He was born on Dec. 26, 1934 in Berlin, Germany. He came to America with his family in 1945, finally settling in San Francisco, where he graduated from Poly High School and the University of San Francisco. He never forgot those people who did so much for him during the years he was integrating into American culture. He was quick to help others whom God brought to his attention.
Bonnie Jo Arnold passed away at Emanuel Medical Center. Bonnie Jo met and married her high school sweet heart, Phillip Arnold, in 1966. They had two sons who preceded her in death, Robert Arnold, who passed away in 2004, and Phillip Arnold, who passed away in 2006. Bonnie Jo was a rescuer of animals, and was a sweet and kind woman who everybody liked. Bonnie Jo leaves behind her husband Phillip; daughter, Julie Robertson; granddaughters, Sydney Arnold, Marci Robertson and Jodi Skaggs; and grandson, Timothy Robertson.

Laura passed away in Hilmar at the age of 94. Laura was born in Arnesen, Rocky Point, Minnesota to Bernard and Agnes Arnesen. She graduated from business college in Duluth, Minnesota and moved to San Francisco. Laura worked as a personal secretary to the President of Garnett Young & Co. After marrying her Navy husband Arthur, they lived in Oakland for 12 years, then moved to Livermore where Arthur worked.

Born July 19, 1930 in Oakland, Bob served 4 years in the US Naval Reserve from 1948 – 1952, during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he attended business colleges, Foothill and San Jose State Colleges. They married in 1955, and settled in Turlock in 1962 after Donald had completed his Masters at UCLA .

Joyce, as she was known to her family and friends, was born February 4, 1933, to Henry and Marie Schoonhoven (nee Hoogeveen) in Steen, MN. At the age of 9, she moved with her family to Ripon, CA, graduating from Ripon High School, to begin work as a secretary and later an office manager for various locally owned companies.
