Bachint Kaur Uppal, 97, of Merced passed away at home, in the comforting arms of her beloved son. Bachint was born in India, and was married at the young age of 13 to her late husband, Swaran Uppal, whom preceded her in death in 2009.
Bachint and Swaran came to live in the U.S. briefly in 1980, only to return to Afghanistan a few years later. She and Swaran returned to the U.S. in 1995, at which time they made the Merced area their home.

Gladys Linnea Mathews,99, was born in March of 1915 to Jonas and Elizabeth Nyman in Wausa, Nebraska. The youngest of five children, she came to California with her family as a young woman and met Carl in Oakland and they married in 1936. They were married for 50 years, ministering as church-planters to communities in the area and foothills. Eleanor,94, was born in the Visalia area to Francisco and Leunora Cardoza in 1920 and passed away in Turlock at the age of 94. She married Albert Brindeiro and they had two children and shared over 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2004. Together they owned a dairy which she helped manage for 62 years. In 1982, their son Glenn passed in a tragic accident; the loss of her son was very difficult and life was never the same for Eleanor.
