Karen was born to Juanita (Jo) Belleville Genseal and James Franklin Genseal (Frank) on November 16, 1940, in Astoria, Illinois. She was the third child born to Jo and Frank. A brother, John, was the first-born and then the middle child, Phyllis. Karen always stated that she had a normal family life growing up. Her father, Frank, was a seed salesman and she always recalled the joy of the simple and naïve life in the small Midwestern town.
Lionel (Bud) Joseph Carpenter was born in Cook, Minnesota in July 1917 to Nazaire and Josephine Carpentier. He married Thelma Sandland in November, 1940 in Grygla, MN. A part of the Greatest Generation, Bud served as a Metalsmith in the U.S. Navy during WWII. During the war they lived in St. Augustine, FL where they survived a hurricane. After the war they settled in Minneapolis. He took a second job to earn the down payment on their first home located in Crystal, MN in 1951.

The youngest of five children, she came to California with her family as a young woman and met Carl in Oakland and they married in 1936. They were married for 50 years, ministering as church-planters to communities in the area and foothills. Eleanor,94, was born in the Visalia area to Francisco and Leunora Cardoza in 1920 and passed away in Turlock at the age of 94. She married Albert Brindeiro and they had two children and shared over 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2004. Together they owned a dairy which she helped manage for 62 years. In 1982, their son Glenn passed in a tragic accident; the loss of her son was very difficult and life was never the same for Eleanor.

She was raised in Turlock, attended Turlock area schools, graduated from Turlock High School in 1948. She married the love of her life, Wallace Peterson Falke. They were married for 56 years.
