Bruce Reed, Jr., 57, of Turlock passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at home after a battle with cancer. Bruce was born in Turlock to Don and Lois Reed in 1953, and he graduated from Hughson High School in 1971. He lived in the Turlock/Hughson area most of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mike Anderson, 66, of Hilmar passed away at home with his family at his side on Tuesday, Nov. 16. He was born in Turlock to Simon and Verna Anderson in 1943, and lived in Hilmar all of his life. Mike owned and operated Mike's Flying Service (later renamed Environmental Spraying Service) for over 30 years. He was a life member of the NRA and a member of Hilmar Grange, Hilmar Historical Society, Hilmar Chamber of Commerce, AOPA, and Western Heritage Museum. He also enjoyed attending cowboy poetry, Sons of San Joaquin, and doing woodworking. Mike will be greatly missed.
Wayne William Ford, 68, of Hilmar passed away Thursday at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.
Surrounded by her family, Billie Loraine Welch Fortlage died peacefully in her Petaluma home on Nov. 9. All who knew Billie will testify to the fact that she was a remarkable Christian woman whose love for God was evident as soon as you met her.
Loren passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on Friday, Nov. 19. Loren lived and ranched almonds in Turlock all of his life. He will be greatly missed.
Peter Padilla, 79, of Turlock passed away in Naples, Fla. on Thursday, Nov. 18. Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Allen Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, also at Allen Mortuary, with a military burial at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
Our mom, Vivian Wiele, 81, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 12 at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento. Born on Feb. 5, 1929, Turlock was her home for the first eight years of her life, as well as for the last six years. Her memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3 at Covenant Village of Turlock.
Barbara Alvares, 65, of Hilmar, passed away at her home after a long illness.
"Trudy" Furnivall, 105, of Turlock, stepped from this life into the next on Oct. 14. She was the last survivor among nine brothers and sisters born to Franklin and Katie Voorhees of Dos Palos.
Ernestine Zierenberg passed away peacefully on Nov. 10 in Merced. She was 78 years old. She was born on Aug. 17, 1932, in Germany where she faced the adversities of World War II as a young teenager. She met her husband, Al, while he was stationed there. They married in Merced on Aug. 20, 1955. Ernestine was a professional seamstress for many years while she stayed at home raising her two daughters.
Maria Rosario Avina, 80, of Modesto, died Nov. 13. She was born in Jalisco, Mexico in 1930.
Jacqueline Barden, 80, of Stevinson, died Nov. 11 in Merced. She was born in West Hollywood in 1930. She was a homemaker for 62 years, and she attended Stevinson Chapel.
Jean Nelson, 93, of Turlock, passed away at Covenant Care Center on Nov. 5. She was born in Los Angeles to Robert and Margaret McClellan in 1917. A lifelong California resident, Jean worked in sales for 27 years at Leask's Department Store in Santa Cruz. She has been a resident of Covenant Village in Turlock since 1992.

Austin Cowan, 85, loved BBQ, ragtime tunes, joking around, and reminiscing about working for "Ma Bell." Born in Hope, NM, to Vera and Audi Cowan, he came of age during the Great Depression. A hard working and determined man, he made a career with the Bell Telephone Company helping advance our nation's communication infrastructure. Austin had an adventurous life with many chapters.
Kirk James passed away after a short illness at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson. He grew up in Delhi, attended schools there and graduated from Livingston High School in 1976. Kirk worked for Norcal Nursery and for the last 2 ½ years worked for Wendell Trinkler Jr.
