Wilfred "Fritz" Marson, 94, of Turlock passed away on Sunday, Jan. 2 at home with his family at his side. He was born in Shickley, Neb. to John and Mary Marson in 1916. In the late 40s, Wilfred moved to Turlock and lived here since then. He met Caroline Brown in the Sacred Heart choir, and they married in 1959. Christopher Bell, 80, of Turlock passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on Saturday, Jan. 1. He was born in Shanghai, China to Joseph and Nellie Bell in 1930. During WW II, Chris' family was captured in Shanghai and put in an internment camp. When Chris was 12, his family was brought to Detroit, Mich. through a POW exchange program. Charles Laskey, 87, of Modesto was born in Lowell, Mass. to William and Beulah Laskey. He passed away at Pacifica Senior Living in Modesto. He will be remembered in this area as a long time math teacher at Ceres High School. He also worked for many years as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital. Charles enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. He also served our country in the Army during World War II.
Vivian Raineri, 86, of Modesto, passed away at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital in Modesto. She was born in Roseburg, Ore. to Henry and Muriel McGuckin. The family moved to Napa, where Vivian completed her schooling and began her career as a journalist and author. She wrote for the Bay Area Bureau of the Peoples' World Newspaper. She was politically astute and active with the Women for Peace in Berkeley, where she lived most of her life. Vivian authored the book "The Red Angel," a biography of Elaine Yoneda, a lady who served time in an internment camp during World War II.
Violet Lynn, 82, of Turlock was born in Denair to John and Evelena Baptista. She was a lifelong resident of the Turlock area. She is survived by her daughter, Cathee Lynn of Turlock.

Leslie Johnson, 93, of Turlock died peacefully at home with devoted family by his side. Leslie was born in Newman Grove, Neb. to the late Oscar and Fairy Johnson. He graduated from Newman Grove High School and worked on the family farm before moving to Turlock. Leslie worked in various farming positions until his enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served as a sergeant in four campaigns in the Pacific during World War II until his return in 1945. Alex Schwendig slipped into the presence of his loving heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 20 at the Covenant Village Care Center in Turlock. He was born on Dec. 26, 1934 in Berlin, Germany. He came to America with his family in 1945, finally settling in San Francisco, where he graduated from Poly High School and the University of San Francisco. He never forgot those people who did so much for him during the years he was integrating into American culture. He was quick to help others whom God brought to his attention.
Bonnie Jo Arnold passed away at Emanuel Medical Center. Bonnie Jo met and married her high school sweet heart, Phillip Arnold, in 1966. They had two sons who preceded her in death, Robert Arnold, who passed away in 2004, and Phillip Arnold, who passed away in 2006. Bonnie Jo was a rescuer of animals, and was a sweet and kind woman who everybody liked. Bonnie Jo leaves behind her husband Phillip; daughter, Julie Robertson; granddaughters, Sydney Arnold, Marci Robertson and Jodi Skaggs; and grandson, Timothy Robertson.

Josie Mae Friesen, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Dave Friesen.

Rodney Dean "Rod" Geving, 61, Dickinson, died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after losing his battle with cancer. Services for Rodney will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, New England, with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Rainy Butte Cemetery, south of New England. Military honors will be provided by the New England American Legion Anton Ulijohn Post 66. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

David N. Sondeno, 89, of Turlock passed away peacefully on Sat. Nov. 8th surrounded by family. David was born in Norway to John and Esther Sondeno, and as a young boy the family immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Stanislaus Co.
