Charles Lester Holmes was born in March of 1944 in Modesto, California. He lived in Salida and attended local schools. He worked at the local drive-in theater while attending Modesto High School. Upon graduating, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for most of his tour of duty.
Stanley Charles Johnson, 76, passed away at his Turlock home. Stanley was born in Turlock to Albert and Edith Johnson. He grew up in Turlock. He met and married Linda Ann Johnson. Stan worked for over 30 years for International Paper in Turlock. He attended Turlock Covenant Church and First Christian Church in Turlock. He had lots of friends and enjoyed meeting for coffee and fellowship. He served his country as a member of the California National Guard.
Shirley was born in Tug Hollow, West Virginia to Virginia Simpkins and Vivian Simpkins truly a coal miner's daughter. She was the oldest of four. Two Sisters and one Brother. Surviving sister, Vivian Feysa and deceased sister Freda Zarlino and brother, Carl Simpkins. Shirley was a musically talented person having picked up the clarinet at a very early age starting in 4th grade. She became very accomplished playing first chair and maintaining straight A's in her later high school years.
Harvey was born Jan. 16, 1920 in Emery, SD. He passed away peacefully in his home on Aug. 20, 2016. He graduated from McCook County School in Emery, SD in 1934. Harvey was a farmer his entire life. He married Louise R. Fluth on Sept. 20, 1940. They had five children. Harvey and Louise moved from Emery to Turlock, CA in 1970 where they farmed and operated a dairy for many years. Harvey enjoyed livestock and farm auctions, going fishing and playing cards. His face lit up when he saw his grandkids.
Mike Loup went to go be with the Lord at the age of 61. He was preceded in passing by his mother Mary Louise Thompson Loup and father Charles Ray Loup, brother John Roy Loup, sister Karen Loup, along with in-laws Superior Court Judge J. Steve Williams & Yvonne G. Williams, brother-in-law's William A. Williams (Bill), James Steve Williams, & Cliff Roper.

Horace Jim "Brownie" Blackwell, 91, died peacefully at his home in Modesto surrounded by his loved ones. Horace was born in Octavia, OK to James and Beulah Blackwell. He moved to California as a young man. He married his life partner, Darlene Cameron, in 1950. He was a veteran of World War II.
Alphonso "Al" Serena, 76, passed away while surrounded by his family on August 18, 2016. Although he was born in Brawley, he was a resident of Turlock since 1945 and was a 1958 graduate of Turlock High School. His grandkids knew him as Poppi, but his close family and friends knew him as Big Al or Uncle Al the Kiddies Pal. He loved cracking jokes and making people laugh all the time. Yuriko Masuda, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on August 15, 2016 at the age of 94. As a longtime resident of the Cortez Japanese farming community (near Ballico, CA), Yuriko will be remembered for her loving and giving spirit to all she came in contact with. Her unwavering religious and spiritual beliefs were ever present in everything she did and everyone she encountered. She will truly be missed.
