Jake deBos passed away peacefully the morning of Feb. 24, 2011.
Jake was born in Arnhem, The Netherlands, and immigrated to the United States shortly after marrying his wife of 51 years, Jannette. They moved from Riverside, Calif. to Turlock in 1978, and lived there until his death. Jake was an engineer who worked for Varco Pruden until his retirement. He was very active in both the Turlock Sunrise Rotary and the First United Methodist Church. Dorothy Beers, 80, of Turlock passed away on Feb. 24. She was born on Nov. 17, 1930, in Turlock and was a wife and homemaker for 51 years.

James "Jim" Golden passed away on Feb. 15 in Turlock. He was 96 years old.
Michael Kennemer was born in Texas, the son of James and Peggy Kennemer. The family moved to Alameda, Calif. when Michael was young and he attended school and graduated from Encinal High School in Alameda. He worked for 30 years in road construction as a partner with his father. Together they worked on many roads in the Santa Clara County area. Later he worked as an estimator for Paving Construction Company in the San Jose area.

Gilbert Duax passed away at the age of 92 surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28 at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Edward Meye, 71, of Denair, lost his battle with cancer at Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born to Edward H. and Elizabeth Meyer in Oakland. After his high school graduation, Edward attended trade school and got his start as an auto mechanic. For many years he ran his own business specializing in the repair of imported cars. In 1958 he married Irene Francis. They were married for 47 years before her death in 2005.

Genevieve "Vee" Baptista, 97, passed away Feb. 14 in San Diego. Genevieve was born and raised in Hughson to parents Joe and Conceicao Baptista. She married Enos Baptista in 1930, and was married for 55 years until he passed away. In 1940, Enos and Genevieve moved to Los Banos where they started a life of farming. They lived there until they retired to Santa Cruz, where she could be closer to her parents. After living in Oakdale for several years, she eventually moved back to Turlock. Janelle Noemi Godinez was born on June 28, 1977, in Watsonville to Jose and Amada Godinez. She was the loving sister of Jose, Sandra, Robert, Sophia, Francisco and Daniel Godinez. Billy was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Harvey and Lillian Mills and passed away after a sudden illness at the age of 86. He was the second of three children. His family settled in Hughson and Billy graduated from Hughson High School and excelled in basketball and baseball. Leonard Mendonca, 80, of Turlock passed away suddenly at home on June 24, 2015. Leonard was born to Caetano and Adeline Mendonca in Modesto, Ca. He attended Roselawn School and graduated from Turlock High School in 1951. He served his country in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician and was the DJ on board the destroyer U.S.S. McKean. She graduated High School from Newport High School in Rhode Island before receiving her Bachelors Degree. She married Irving E. Smith November 9, 1942 in New York City. Mom was born in September of 1915 in Oakland, Nebraska, the 3rd of 5 children born to John and Ebba Nelson. The Nelson family moved to California in 1923 and after living in Denair and Delhi, they moved to the family farm in Hughson.

Jose Natal Sousa passed away at the age of 78 in Turlock, he was born in the Azores in 1936 to Manuel Enes and Maria Amorim. Jose came to Turlock in 1978 where he worked on a dairy and also for Gallo Winery before retiring from Silva's Construction. He enjoyed playing the trumpet and attended Our Lady of The Assumption Church in Turlock.

My beloved Karen entered into peace Sunday, June 14, after a year-long struggle with illness. Karen was born at Emanuel Hospital, Turlock, to parents Melvin (2010) and Elizabeth (Penny) (1961) Crowell. She lived in Livingston, CA, Oregon and Livermore as a young girl.
