Zona M. Stafford, a long-time resident of Denair and Turlock, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, April 6.
Born in 1919 in Turlock to the late Benjamin and Jessie Rude, Zona married Robert K. Stafford in 1937. She belonged to the Church of Christ in Turlock and made the Lord the first on her list. She loved her family and cared for her friends. Her interest included crocheting, playing cards, camping, and most of all she enjoyed fishing.

Helena Melo, 89, of Turlock died April 5 at Emanuel Hospital in Turlock. She was a resident of Turlock and lived in Stanislaus County for 44 years. She was a homemaker, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Turlock and Our Lady of Fatima Society of Turlock. She loved to cook for everyone and enjoyed her garden with many plants and flowers. Louis Nunes Terra, 86, of Turlock, entered into rest on Monday. He was born in 1925 in Pedro Miguel Faial, Azores.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Turlock, past president of Our Lady of Fatima in 1975 and 1981, and a member of P.F.S.A. Council 26 of Hilmar/Stevinson/Turlock. He immigrated to the United States in 1961, settled in Turlock and lived there ever since. Don Bethea Whitmore

Don Whitmore passed away on Saturday. He was born in Elgin, Neb. in 1929 to Roland and Florence Whitmore and had two older brothers, Bruce and Richard. In the late 1930s his family moved to Atwater where they owned and operated a general store and gas station in town. Don attended grammar school in Atwater and graduated from Livingston High School in 1947. He attended Modesto Junior College before serving his country in the Army from 1948 -1949 and then in the National Guard from 1949 -1956.

James Short, 55, of Hughson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at his residence in Hughson. He was born in 1956 in Turlock to Phillip and Kay Short. He was raised in Hughson and graduated from Hughson High School in 1974. He attended Modesto Junior College. He became a welder and had a career in heavy construction. James attended Waterford Foursquare Church. He was a cowboy, and loved leading pack trips into the wilderness. He was also artistic and creative with his welding, making metal sculptures and decor.

Chester Takahashi

Chiyoji "Chester" Takahashi, 86, of Livingston passed away at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital in Merced on Tuesday. Chester was born in 1924 to Seiichiro and Sei Takahashi in Livingston. He graduated from Livingston High School. Chester was interned at the Merced Assembly Center and Amache, Colo. Relocation Center. He served in the Army during WW II from 1944 to 1947. During the war, he served in Italy and France in the Japanese/American 442 Infantry. He was a farmer for over 65 years. H was a member of the Japanese American Citizens League and the Livingston Farmers Association.

Former Turlock resident Alice Es-haq, 83, died Wednesday at Almaden Health and Rehabilitation in San Jose. She was born August 1927, in Iran, to the late Baba and Hili Yeganeh. She was a school teacher in Iran and migrated to Turlock with her husband Rev. Samuel Es-Haq in 1987. In 2003 they lived in San Jose until her passing. Alice was a woman of faith and trusted the Lord all through her life. She also had a love for people.

Aurora N. Ferreira, 90, of Madera, died March 24 in Madera. She was born in Santa Luzia, Praia da Vitoria, Ilha, Terceira, Azores in 1920.
Aurora was a homemaker for 47 years and a member of Shrine Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine.
She is survived by her sons, Francisco Ferreira of Visalia, Antonio Ferreira of Dos Palos and Jorge Ferreira of Tennessee; daughters, Lucilia Amaral of Gustine and Maria Linhares of Orlando; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
