Local bar salutes Marines, vets

The Udder Place owner and former Marine Jerry Powell was presented with a flag certificate and a photo of Corp. Michael Anderson Jr. who was killed Dec. 14, 2004 in Fallujah, Iraq. Anderson Jr.'s father Michael Anderson Sr., with the help of Congressman Jeff Denham, had a flag flown in honor of his son above the Pentagon on Thursday. The flag and the photo will go on Powell's Wall of Honor at The Udder Place and be displayed for all to see.

Turlock elects first District representatives

Turlock voters made history on Tuesday, electing the city's first two District representatives to the City Council. As of 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, Gil Esquer was leading Jaime Franco substantially in the District 2 race (with 60 percent of precincts counted) and Steven Nascimento was ahead of Amy Bublak and Donald Babadalir in District 4 (with 50 percent of precincts counted).
