Insurance man secures donation for homeless shelter

Christopher Freeberg was so moved by his Christmas Eve volunteer experience at the Turlock We Care homeless shelter program last year that he wanted to do more. So the local insurance man nominated the We Care program to receive a grant through Safeco's Agent Giving Program. Freeberg's petition was granted; and We Care was presented with a $2,000 check from Safeco last week.

County labor market shows improvement

New lights for old Turlock neighborhoods

Just five months ago, the Turlock City Council was considering turning out the lights in some areas of town in an effort to save money. Today, the City of Turlock is planning to replace 1,800 high pressure sodium street lamps with induction lamps, thanks to a $643,100 award from the Department of Energy.

Water works move forward at Columbia Park

The Turlock Parks, Recreation and Community Commission unanimously voted Wednesday to locate the Columbia Park water feature adjacent to Columbia Pool. The water feature will be surrounded by a four foot high wrought iron fence with a gate between the pool and water feature, and a pass-through gate from the water feature to the park.

Program offers free medical ID bracelets for children

Between science class and language arts, most teachers have trouble remembering their students' names let alone what they are allergic to. It is difficult to know every student's medical history when they have numerous students wondering in and out of their classroom every day. MedicAlert Foundation makes medical identification bracelets for this reason. Sometimes though, people have trouble affording these life-saving bracelets.
