Local musicians played their instruments in front of Raley's to spread the Christmas cheer on Thursday and help raise money for the Salvation Army. "Jingle Bells," "Silent Night," and "Joy to the World" were heard throughout the aisles of the grocery store.

More travelers expected on the road this holiday season

According to travel trends research conducted by AAA Northern California and Boston-based consulting firm IHS Global Insight, 11.3 million Californians plan to travel at least 50 miles over Christmas and New Year's. That's 11.3 percent more Californians traveling than a year ago.

A world of goodwill

Mundo's Latin Grill and the Central Valley Project held a toy and jacket givaway at Mundo's on Saturday. They gave out 197 jackets to Turlock children who signed up ahead of time. They also gave away toys and bags of candy and cookies as Christmas gifts for the kids.

Students sew holiday smiles

Twenty-eight little girls will have something more to smile about other than a visit from Santa come this holiday. The Pitman High home economics class made brand new Christmas dresses and donated them to the Salvation Army to be distributed to families in need. Every year, the Kiwanis Club of Turlock buys material to give to the Pitman home economics class to sew together dresses that are then donated during Christmas and Easter.

Air deputies brighten holiday of children in crisis

Squeals of delight shot up Thursday afternoon when a bussed-in crowd of children from the Children's Crisis Center first spotted Santa Claus waving exuberantly from the top of an approaching black SWAT truck. The jolly Santa hopped out with a big toy sack slung over his shoulder to greet the giggly and wiggly group of 70 and led them into the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department headquarters in Ceres for a memorable visit and presentation of gifts.
