CSUS Relay for Life generates thousands for cancer research

Thousands of people cross the California State University, Stanislaus campus each day, but on Saturday hundreds of those people were walking for a cause: cancer.

SPRING FASHION FOR A CAUSE

Ann Cornell's Fashion & Design class at Pitman High made and then donated 29 spring dresses to The Salvation Army and a few other charities. The Kiwanis Club purchased cloth from Cloth & Quilts in Turlock at a discount and then donated the material to the Pitman students for dress making. The dresses are made twice a year, usually in the winter and spring seasons. The Pitman High class and the Kiwanis Club have been teaming up to make the dress for about 12 years now.

Turlock Lake promises to be full for seasonal fun

Sharon and Bob Wolf came from Ohio to manage the Turlock Lake State Park recreational area for contractor American Land and Leisure. As area managers this winter, they invested a lot of sweat equity to upgrade the facility, replacing split rail fences, pedestal barbecue pits and picnic tables and painting restrooms. They feared their efforts would be in vain with speculations that the lake would not be filled due to the drought. After all, the docks were out of the water and eight duck blinds were stuck in the mud over the winter for a lack of water.

Abe Rojas earns Senior award

Generations of Turlock youth have had the opportunity to swing for the bleachers thanks to the efforts of Abe Rojas. His vision in creating the Pedretti Sports Complex is just one way Rojas has left a lasting legacy in the area and has earned him the 2014 Senior Award for Stanislaus County Supervisorial District 2.

Uber comes to the Central Valley

When Turlock native Spencer Rinkus moved to San Francisco he did not anticipate that he would eventually work for one of the most popular startups in the Bay Area: Uber. An application that individuals can download to their iPhone or Android devices, Uber connects riders with certified drivers that are near them, revolutionizing the transportation and cab services industry. After a small advertising startup at which Rinkus was working was acquired by Yahoo!, Rinkus was on the hunt for another position and found his way to Uber.
