The Distinguished Young Women of Turlock competition was held Saturday at the Turlock Community Auditorium and two local teens won top honors. Ashley Gomez was named North Turlock's Distinguished Young Woman of 2011 and Madison Patino won South Turlock's Distinguished Young Woman title.

Chuck Hodges has lived a full life. He is a two-time Army veteran -Korea and Vietnam. He has held down numerous jobs in his life from dish washer, to garbage collector and truck driver. Now, at the age of 81, he no longer works, but enjoys fishing, bowling and dancing.

Two girls and two boys from both Turlock and Pitman high schools spoke at the American Legion Hall on Friday about their adventures at Girls State and Boys State this past summer. They all went for a week-long conference to learn about the process of the California government, how it works and they even built their own government from the ground up.
