Carnegie bid $2.4 million less than expected

First confirmed case of H1N1 influenza reported in Stanislaus County

Stanislaus County Public Health officials received confirmation on Friday from the state laboratory of a positive novel H1N1 case in the county. The affected county resident is a 22-year-old female who did not require hospitalization.

Hilmar Eagle Scout works on play park

Anthony Sarment, 14, recently achieved the highest rank possible in Boy Scouts of America, the rank of Eagle Scout. Sarment completed a project of re-finishing and painting the children's play park at Donnelly Park. The project took 35 people over 127 man hours to complete.

Program helps teens realize their leadership potential

Deguire graduated from Pitman High School earlier this month and ended her five year membership with the council. Local gardener grows big surprise

Chester Chimel might be 84 years old, but he can grow cucumbers as well as any young gardener. Chimel's Asian cucumber plant recently yielded several vegetables over 2 feet in length. The largest of the cucumbers was 26 inches long.

Local homebrewer wins big at national competition

Local homebrewer Mark Ranes enjoys sharing his love for beer with friends and family. At any one time he has eight of his homemade beers on tap, including his award-winning Mark's Bigfoot Barleywine. Ranes took home a bronze medal and bragging rights for his barleywine at the 33rd annual American Homebrewers Association National Homebrew Competition on June 18.
