Members of the Turlock community came together on Friday morning to eat, pray and reflect at the annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast, giving thanks to the city's local heroes and listening to a brave testimony from the last woman to be found alive at the World Trade Center, Genelle Guzman-McMillan.

It will soon be a lot easier for fans to follow along the play of their little leaguers thanks to a donation from the Turlock Associated Police Officers. The union donated $2,444 to Turlock American Little League to purchase a new sound system at the ball field at Julien. TAPO previously helped out the little league when thieves stole the aluminum bleachers and TAPO stepped to the plate to replace the bleachers.

Families attending events at branches of the Stanislaus County Library in May can learn more about science, Angry Birds and My Little Pony. Along with these educational and fun activities, both the Turlock and Keyes libraries have Summer Reading Challenge events planned for the end of the month to get local families excited about reaching their literary goals.

Olde Tyme Pastries opened its doors on May 1, 1981, bringing with it a delicious selection of cakes, cookies, pies and other desserts that the Turlock community has grown to love over the last 35 years. Formerly located in the back corner of Geer Gardens, the bakery moved up to its current location 20 years ago and has never looked back.
