EAGLE COURT OF HONOR
An Eagle Court of Honor was held for Patrick Thomas O'Connor, son of Tom and Agnes O'Connor of Turlock, on Nov. 29, 2010. Patrick is a 16-year-old junior at Turlock High School. He joined the Cub Scouts in 2000 and received the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts, in 2005. In 2007, he was chosen by the troop to become eligible for membership in the Order of the Arrow.
Irrigation season pushed back due to rain
Due to changing weather conditions the start of irrigation season for Turlock Irrigation District customers has been pushed back seven days, from Thursday to March 17, the district announced at its annual pre-season growers meeting Wednesday night.

Group raises concerns over Central Valley ground water contamination

Water Board to fund ag quality improvement projects
Valley farmers will soon have access to more than $8 million in grant money for agricultural water quality improvement projects. The grant funding comes from the State Water Resources Control Board through Proposition 84, a bond approved by voters in 2006.

First Step Dental held their 12th Annual Field Trip Day on Friday. The Turlock dental office hosted the field trip as part of Children Dental Health Month. First Step hosted six local elementary schools and taught the importance of brushing and flossing, nutrition and a fun introduction of the dentist chair.
Hutton House: Providing a safe haven for runaway teens
Hutton House has been a safe haven for runaway and homeless teens in Stanislaus County since 1976. Youth ages 13 to 17 who need a temporary place to stay during a crisis situation can live at the Modesto shelter for up to two weeks. Hutton House also offers day and drop-in services, and between the residential and non-residential programs they serve around 800 clients per year.

Family dog shines in fair show
4-H members waited excitedly outside of the show ring as their parents watched from the bleachers. They had spent months training for this day, practicing with their animal and teaching them how to walk, how to follow directions and how to behave in front of the judges. As the event finally started and contestants entered the ring, the 4-H members were not leading livestock animals, but instead they were leading the family dog.

Milk board seeks volunteers to install donated play structure
Bristol Park is getting a facelift this Saturday courtesy of the California Milk Processors' Board and Sunnyside Farms, and they are asking community members to lend a hand. The two organizations split the cost of a new $50,000 recycled plastic play structure to be installed at Bristol, but they need volunteers' help to assemble and install it.

Slurpee Day
Turlockers enjoyed 7-Eleven's free Slurpee Day on Monday. By 1 p.m. the 7-Eleven on Geer Road had handed out nearly 600 slurpees. 7-Eleven said it expected to hand out 5 million slurpees across the country. 7-Eleven gives out free slurpees each July 11th to commemorate the convenience chain's birthday. 7-Eleven began in Dallas in 1927.

Gas prices jump after early summer slump
Despite drops in monthly gas price comparisons, pump prices have started to rise a bit in many parts of California, putting the brakes on an early summer price slump. According to AAA, which tracks gas prices, all but one Northern California metro area tracked by the organization saw a double digit decrease at the pump over the past month.
No injuries in 3-vehicle crash
A crash involving three vehicles Tuesday afternoon backed up traffic at the corner of Lander and Greenway avenues, just south of Highway 99. According to Highway Patrolman A. Keller, a white car was traveling westbound on Greenway and ran a stop sign for an unknown reason. The car then struck a black Toyota, which was traveling northbound on Lander Avenue. Homeowners’ pleas convince TID to delay eminent domain proceedings
Homeowners along the planned route of the Turlock Irrigation District's new Hughson/Grayson 115 kilovolt transmission line were granted a brief reprieve from eminent domain proceedings Tuesday morning.
