As fires continue to rage across various regions of California, the state's mutual aid system has been sending firefighting teams out from agencies all over the state, including teams from Turlock.

Candace Gonsalves and her husband, Matt, started Rustic Metal Designs back in 2010, because they wanted to create unique custom metal pieces for family and friends and it grew into a full-time family business. Gonsalves is also part owner of Farm House in downtown Turlock. She and Matt were married on Cinco de Mayo five years ago and they have two beautiful kids, Mattie (4) and Gavin (2).

Families continue fair tradition on opening night

For Arlen and Susan Peters, attending the Stanislaus County Fair is a tradition that goes back over 30 years to when they took their daughter, Ashley Etchebarne, to take pictures on the ponies as a young girl. This year, the family continued that tradition on opening night of the fair, but it was their grandchildren that got to pose atop the miniature horses this time.

Turlock Fire will get real-life experience at new drill grounds

It may look like a grouping of cargo containers, but for Turlock firefighters it's an apartment complex next to the university, or a hotel near the freeway, or a house on Main Street or a suite of offices on Geer Road. Whatever it might be at the moment, the new training facilities at the fire department's drill grounds will be used to enhance the skills of Turlock's firefighters like never before.
