Distinguished Young Women 2014 Winners

Twenty-four junior girls, representing five different local high schools, competed in this year's Distinguished Young Women of Turlock scholarship program (formerly known as Turlock's Junior Miss). Henna Hundal and Laci Rojas each earned $850 in scholarship funds for winning the DYW of Turlock and DYW of Greater Turlock awards. First runner-up Cailie Fuentes earned $500 and second runner-up Brooklyn Boice earned $300.

TID to apply for Rim Fire disaster assistance

Being the third largest wildfire in California's history, the 2013 Rim Fire in the Sierra Nevada region caused unprecedented damage to not only the Stanislaus National Forest and adjacent areas, but also incurred costs to several communities after causing damage to nearby hydroelectric power plants. Additionally, water supplies became at-risk for millions, including Turlock Irrigation District's Don Pedro Reservoir due to washed down silt and debris from the fire.
