State Water Board extends water conservation regulations

Although Turlock and surrounding reservoirs have readily welcomed recent rainfall, the State Water Resources Control Board made a decision earlier this month to continue existing water conservation regulations that prohibit wasteful practices, as well as to set a conservation mandate for water suppliers that do not have enough water reserves to withstand three more dry years.

Wellness programs first to reap benefits from Legacy

Legacy Health Endowment, the health care philanthropy created in 2014 as a result of the sale of Emanuel Medical Center to Tenet Health, announced its first grant awards to four local health and wellness programs. A total of $550,000 was awarded to Catholic Charities, Castle Family Health Centers, Golden Valley Health Center and Livingston Health Clinics to address health needs such as adult day health care, chronic disease and homemaker services for the elderly and disabled.

Miracle League accepting signups for spring season

Disabled children and teens will soon get their chance to do what was previously thought impossible: play a game of baseball. This feat, which would otherwise be made difficult with their disabilities, is made possible through the Miracle League of Stanislaus County, which is once again accepting signups for its spring season before opening day in March.

It is not often that a bird leaves an impression quite as significant as Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital's beloved 24-year-old cockatoo and unofficial lobby greeter Thelma, who for her last few years called the animal hospital her home. Known to walk freely amongst clients and staff in the lobby, Thelma delighted everyone she met with her quirky personality and was "loved by all."

Turlock IRC office helps family separated by travel ban

Just three weeks ago, Nael Abdulqader was unsure if he would ever see his family again. He was permitted into the United States as a refugee on Jan. 18, and was forced to leave his parents and nine siblings across the Atlantic Ocean as he pursued a new life. Despite his fears, Nael's time apart from his family was not in vain as they were brought together once more in a heartwarming reunion Monday night.
