The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors gave the initial green light Tuesday for the sheriff's department to start the process of laying-off 27 employees. New city commissioners look to better the community
The Turlock City Council approved four new city commissioners at Tuesday's meeting. Mike Dowd and Steven Nascimento were appointed to the Parks, Recreation and Community Commission; and Alex Cantatore and Susana Love were appointed to the Arts Commission. Each commissioner had his or her own reason for applying, but they all said they were happy to be appointed to serve their community.

County prepares for disaster with mock exercise

Turlock could soon look to export refuse outside of Stanislaus County, avoiding a potentially costly rate increase at the county's waste-to-energy plant. In June, the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors approved raising disposal rates at the county's Covanta-operated waste-to-energy incinerator from $28 per ton to $39 per ton. Speed limits are set to change on two Turlock roads. Supervisors hire architects to design new county jail
The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors took the first major step toward the construction of a new county jail on Tuesday, unanimously approving HOK, of San Francisco, and WLC Architects, of Folsom, to design the facilities.
