Two Turlock residents were arrested on a litany of charges following a call to the Turlock Police Department of suspicious activity that ended with one suspect held at gunpoint by a homeowner and another arrested after falsely reporting a shooting in an attempt to lure officers away from the search.
The job of keeping the public safe is one that extends beyond the officers on patrol and the detectives working cases. The Turlock Police Department utilizes several special units that target specific areas, all with the goal of increased public safety.
The case that charged two defendants with animal cruelty for mistreating thousands of hens at their poultry farm outside Turlock came to a close Tuesday with a plea deal for one defendant and charges dropped against the other.
The Part One crime rate in Turlock saw a rise in 2015 as the area experienced more theft crimes, but did see a decline in some of the more violent crimes, for an overall increase of 8.7 percent, according to the Turlock Police Department's annual report.
