Alexander Aliaga, an eighth grader at Turlock Junior High School, took home the top spot in mathematics at the Stanislaus County Office of Education Academic Pentathlon last weekend. Musical partnership
Students from Dutcher and Turlock Junior High schools teamed up to perform in front of a nearly sold out crowd at Pitman High School during the District Music Festival on Tuesday. More than 720 students throughout Turlock Unified School District will participate in the festival, which spans four shows in four nights this week.
Good citizen award
The Turlock chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented Hilmar Middle School student Alexandra Britton the DAR Good Citizenship Award on Friday. The Hilmar eighth grader was selected by several teachers who recognized her qualities in five categories: honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism.

Students from Osborn Two-Way Immersion Academy's Ballet Folklorico performed a Mexican dance during the 16 de Septiembre Celebration held Friday at the school. Hundreds of families attended the event, which featured student dancing, traditional clothing, tamales, ice cream, corn on the cob and cold drinks. Pitman High seniors Adrian Leven and Simon Staley were selected as semifinalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship competition. Should either be selected as a finalist they would be in competition for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $34 million. Mobile science lab makes first trip to Turlock
Ag in Motion, a 53-foot state-of-the-art mobile trailer classroom, visited seventh grade students at Dutcher Middle School in Turlock this week. The mobile classroom was unveiled in late June of this year by the National Ag Science Center in Modesto.
