TUSD trustees approve budget, await further state cuts
After months of slashing expenses, negotiating new contracts, and cutting services and programs, the Turlock Unified School District finally has a budget for the 2009-10 school year ... at least for a few weeks.
Retiring teachers honored, voice their appreciation for district
Marsha Memmott has spent the last 30 years teaching English to Turlock eighth graders. She has spent 30 years correcting grammar, grading essays, and explaining when to use "who" and when to use "whom." After all of those years of dedication to Turlock students and their education, Memmott is retiring from her job at Turlock Junior High School.

Local colleges receive federal grant funding

Medeiros and Earl elementary schools held parent informational meetings Thursday night. The purpose of the meetings was to communicate to parents what the standards and expectations are for students and to discuss strategies and tools parents can use to increase student success in the classroom. Medeiros Principal Jennifer Yacoub said parents this year are very eager to help. Both parent meetings had activities to keep children busy while parents hit the classrooms.
Turlock Unified School District Board moves to new digs
The Turlock Unified School District held its first Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday at the district's new Professional Development Center located at the eCademy Charter at Crane campus. Independence celebration
Students from Osborn Two-Way Immersion Academy's Ballet Folklorico performed a Mexican dance during the 16 de Septiembre Celebration held Friday at the school. Hundreds of families attended the event, which featured student dancing, traditional clothing, tamales, ice cream, corn on the cob and cold drinks. The event began at Osborn last year to celebrate Mexico's Independence Day.

Pitman Pride march into Washington
The Pitman High School marching band and color guard, known as the "Marching Pride," was recently invited to Washington D.C. to participate in the 2012 National Independence Day Parade. Hearst award winner named
Linda Fegan, a Spanish major at CSU Stanislaus, has been named the CSU Stanislaus recipient of the William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement.
