Area students get training in biotech at THS
Did you know that you can transform e-coli bacteria by injecting DNA extracted from a jelly fish that will create a florescent protein, which could then create insulin for use by a human diabetic? If you didn't know that (or even have a clue what protein exactly is) you can rest assured that a group of about 30 students from area high schools do know.

CSU Stanislaus president highlights increased enrollment in state of university address
California State University, Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani delivered his 2011 State of the University address Friday, highlighting rising student enrollment despite the challenge of declining state funding for the university. Year-over-year, CSU Stanislaus has seen an 11.5 percent increase in enrollment, bringing the total headcount to 9,248 students. Cunningham Elementary turnaround bearing fruit
Anyone involved with the Cunningham Elementary turnaround last year will testify that it was a tense, controversial scene at the small, close-knit campus on the west side of Turlock. Parents, students learn about energy at annual event
The 2nd annual Walnut Energy Faire was held Saturday. Autism program helps students develop skills for traditional classroom learning
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nine out of 1,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with autism. Autism Speaks, a non-profit autism advocacy and awareness campaign says one in every 110 children, and 1 in 70 boys, are affected by autism. The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Sonny Da Marto joined a coalition of education officials who filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the State of California in San Francisco Superior Court.
