Fourth grade Denair Academic Academy students Amy Schmit and Dena Gabriel took 1st place in the Oceanography category of the "Deep Blue Sea" at the 16th Annual Elementary Science Olympiad last week at Hickman Elementary School. Schmit and Gabriel were the youngest competitors out of 300 elementary school children throughout the region who participated in events which included bridge building, can race, straw egg drop and water rockets.
