Julien student spells success

Turlock Unified School District student Jovan Hundal is no stranger when it comes to competition. For a second consecutive year, he won the Elementary Spelling Championship on Wednesday, beating out 89 students from Stanislaus County. He will advance to the 2013 State Elementary Spelling Bee, scheduled for April 20 in Stockton.

Putting the fun into science

California State University, Stanislaus students brought science to life on Monday when they assisted dozens of 4th, 5th and 6th grade students in a series of science experiments at Osborn Two-Way Immersion Academy. The experiments - most of which were designed by the students - included testing pH in food, extracting DNA from fruit, generating electricity, moving molecules and measuring the density of objects.
