TUSD trustees approve budget, await further state cuts
After months of slashing expenses, negotiating new contracts, and cutting services and programs, the Turlock Unified School District finally has a budget for the 2009-10 school year ... at least for a few weeks.
Retiring teachers honored, voice their appreciation for district
Marsha Memmott has spent the last 30 years teaching English to Turlock eighth graders. She has spent 30 years correcting grammar, grading essays, and explaining when to use "who" and when to use "whom." After all of those years of dedication to Turlock students and their education, Memmott is retiring from her job at Turlock Junior High School.

Hilmar High School students will now be developing a stronger proficiency in science and mathematics for the upcoming New Year, thanks to local farmers. Several University of California, Merced students are taking their engineering skills out of the classroom and into the field. Students in the UC Merced Engineering Service Learning Class installed a solar-powered webcam in the Los Banos Wetlands, giving area school children a close-up view of the wildlife. Rojas named YCCD board chair
Trustee Abe Rojas, of Turlock, has been named the new Chairman of the Yosemite Community College District Board of Trustees. Rojas will hold the position through November 2013. He replaces outgoing chair Mike Riley, of Modesto. Rojas has served the YCCD board for 17 years, representing Trustee Area 3, which includes Turlock Denair, and Hughson. Lynn Martin, of Sonora, was appointed to serve as vice chair for the same period.
Denair Unified approves 23 layoffs
Over 400 concerned parents and community members filled the Denair Middle School Gymnasium on Thursday night to have their worst fears realized as the Denair Unified Board of Trustees voted to layoff teachers and staff members, and close the Denair Charter Academy.
Planned Denair High walk-out fizzles
In response to proposed immediate teacher lay-offs and budget cuts, parents of Denair High School students created a Facebook page to encourage students to walk out of their classes early Thursday morning. CSU system sees record number of applications for fall 2013
The fall 2013 application cycle has set a new California State University record for submissions – the fourth straight year of record high system wide applications. Through Nov. 30, 763,517 applications were submitted by students interested in a fall 2013 start at a CSU campus. The number represents a 12 percent increase from a year ago. Denair schools struggle with 'dramatic' budget deficit
The Stanislaus County Office of Education has stepped in to help right the financial wrongs found in the Denair Unified School District, however, a plan of action has yet to be released.
