An emotional campus-wide funeral was held Thursday at Turlock High School to remember three students who passed away Wednesday in a violent alcohol-related collision at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.
Hundreds gathered at Osborn Elementary School on Thursday for the Día del Niño celebration. The festival included free food, drinks, entertainment, activity stations and information booths from local community organizations.
Pitman High School students took a look into their futures on Thursday with a Career Day in the quad. Students still have a few years to figure out what career field they want to enter, but the information fair gave them a few more options to consider.
Turlock High School math students recently competed in the Stanislaus Math Council's High School Math Competition held at CSU Stanislaus. Angie Mendoza captured first place in math analysis. Rojas was awarded Honorable Mention in Geometry, Pruitt earned 3rd place in Geometry and McGinnis took home an Honorable Mention in Calculus.
Turlock Unified School District released the names of students who scored perfect 600s on their California Standards Tests. TUSD had 110 students who reached perfection and five students who earned perfect scores in more than one subject testing area. The CSTs include testing for general math, English-language arts, geometry, algebra 1, algebra 2, summative high school math, integrated high school math, history-social science, science, biology, chemistry, earth science and physics. Test areas vary by grade level.
The administrative hearing between lawyers representing the Yosemite Community College District and those representing Modesto Junior College staff eliminated in recent budget cuts continued Wednesday morning, with the affected staff testifying for most of the day.
The Turlock High School Speech and Debate team bested the competition over the school year en route to a perfect undefeated season. In 10 individual and debate sweepstakes, THS took home 10 trophies for first place and the program was named Leading Chapter in the Big Valley District.
Turlock High School NJROTC cadets trained on the proper use of a fire hose during an instructional session with the Turlock Fire Department- Engine 33 this week. In the Navy all personnel aboard a ship must participate in firefighting training and drills and in boot camp a heavy emphasis is placed on disaster response training. The cadets also practiced Navy boot camp exercises.
Last year Turlock Unified School District undertook the challenge of "turning around" Cunningham Elementary using a modified state model in order to pull the school out of being on the state's list of lowest-performing schools for the past three school years.
