Turlock, Pitman girls compete at Western State

Turlock and Pitman High took a weekend break from the Central California Conference water polo season to compete in the Girls Western States Tournament, finishing 25th in the A bracket and 6th in the B bracket, respectively.

Pitman High volleyball: Too tall an order for Turlock

The Central California Conference volleyball season is two-thirds of the way through and Pitman High is standing at the top of the heap. The Pride (10-0 CCC) kept the ball rolling on their undefeated league campaign Thursday night, beating the Turlock Bulldogs in the second cross-town match of the year 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, and 25-12).

Turlock golf swings win over Pitman

Turlock High's girls golf team defeated Pitman High for the second time this season 244-278. Thursday's matchup began moments after the day's downpour ended but the water was still a factor as both schools struggled with the conditions on the green. Turlock's Hannah Gong finished the day with a score of 43, the Bulldogs' best of the day, while Bergen Benedict shot a 48. Pitman's group failed to shoot below 51 but golfers like Sheyenne Sousa were able to make the best of the day by focusing on individual effort.

After an uncharacteristically low offensive performance against Buhach Colony High last week, Pitman High turned the page with a four touchdown effort in its 28-20 win over Atwater High on Friday.

Downs leads Turlock to homecoming victory

It's a rare sight to watch a football team rack up more than 400 yards of offense and still lose, but that's exactly what happened to Turlock High last Friday. The aftermath of the Merced game led the Bulldogs (1-1 CCC) to focus on the elimination of mistakes during practice, a difficult task with all the distractions associated with Homecoming, but a task they mastered.

Bulldogs defeat Pitman; even cross-town series

The Turlock High boys soccer team bounced back from two weeks of disappointment with a 1-0 victory over rival Pitman High on Saturday. In an always appreciated night game, the Bulldogs (3-3-3 CCC) asserted control over the Pride (3-2-5 CCC) for most of the match, a complete reversal from the first matchup against Pitman which ended in a loss.

Sisters first, rivals second

Cami and Victoria Larsen are sisters, so an occasional face-off over borrowed clothing or a sibling disagreement isn't a farfetched sight to see for parents Keith and Shaun. Still, conflict and competition between the two is rare; their distinctive personalities tend to complement each other rather than clash and their shared interests quash the stereotypical tension that is often expected between teenaged sisters.

Knights slay the Eagles

It was a matchup of opposites Friday night when Turlock Christian High hosted Ripon Christian High at McSweeney field in Hilmar. The Eagles entered the game with a Southern Athletic League record of 0-2 and a pass centered offense while the Knights arrived with a 2-0 in the SAL and a rush based attack.

Buhach Colony High became the 8th Central California Conference opponent to face Pitman High on the volleyball court this season and walk away in defeat. The Pride (8-0 CCC) hammered the Thunder on Thursday, maintaining their undefeated record with a straight set effort (25-13, 25-22, and 25-19).

Turlock tennis back in winners’ bracket

Turlock High's number one singles player, Natalia Lima, fell short against Golden Valley High's Lindsay Robson on Thursday in only her second individual loss of the season, but solid play from the rest of the Bulldog (7-1 CCC) squad was more than enough to claim team victory as the Cougars fell 8-1.

Pitman softball chasing Merced

With only five games left in the Central California Conference season, Pitman High softball is on a mission to dethrone two-time defending CCC champs Merced High. The Pride continued their hunt for the Bears' first place position on Friday with a 10-1 home win against rival Turlock High, extending their league record to 9-6 and closing Merced's lead by only two games.

Pitman softball starts 2-0 in Nor Cal Classic

Pitman High's softball team is currently competing in the Northern California Classic Tournament in Tracy, and as of Friday, the Pride are a perfect 2-0 after sweeping through Santa Teresa and Los Banos in their opening games.

Turlock softball goes 2-3 at Napa

Turlock High softball started this season's Central California Conference campaign o the right foot, winning three of its first five league games after winning a total of only two league games last season. After back-to-back one-run wins against Merced and Buhach Colony High the Bulldogs hit a snag, however, as they skid into spring break with a pair of losses to Atwater and Golden Valley High.

Three 'Jackets take gold at MJC Invite

Hilmar High's track team is, as it has been for some time, on the small side this year. Not physically, but in overall numbers. There are roughly 40 athletes filling the overall roster, most of whom are young, which has made the 2015 hunt for the Trans Valley League title a non-issue for the Yellowjackets.

Pitman, Turlock send 14 to Stanford Invite

Pitman sent eight athletes and Turlock High had six representatives competing alongside students from 75 high schools at the 40th annual Stanford Invitational on Saturday.
