With a perfect season completed, Yellowjackets aim for Section title

HILMAR - The walls of the Hilmar High main office offers a display of winners. Team pictures are scattered near the back entrance, reminding students, teachers and visitors what the school's sports teams are capable of. Among the past winners is the 2004 Hilmar boys golf team. Just the other day, members of this year's Yellowjackets team were staring at the picture and reading the names and records posted underneath it.

Pitman, Turlock split rivalry meetings

The Turlock High baseball team had plenty of motivation entering Friday afternoon's annual rivalry meeting with Pitman High, considering the Bulldogs had lost to the Pride just 24 hours prior. Track teams battle it out for league title

Because of many occasions of rain in April, the track and field meeting between Pitman High and Turlock High had to be postponed. The crosstown rivals finally met Thursday afternoon, with Merced High joining in the Central California Conference action, at Pitman High. The Pride girls squad capitalized on the opportunity by beating both opponents to earn a 5-0 record. Those wins clinched at least a share of the league title, though they'll have a chance to capture it outright if they top Los Banos High on Wednesday afternoon, with Turlock also joining in.

Eagles rally late as Smallwood turns in gutsy performance

It appeared, for a minute, that Robbie Smallwood would need to come out of Thursday's game early after being thrown out trying to scurry back to first base on a line-drive caught by Waterford right-fielder Moises Real. Smallwood dove back hard into first base for the second time in the second inning and proceeded to get up very slowly. It appeared that Turlock Christian coach Jon Valenti had an important decision to make on whether to let Smallwood head back out to the mound the next inning.
