Pitman High varsity volleyball coach Kristen Pontes-Christian was recently named the 2016-17 Northern California Volleyball Coach of the Year by the California Coaches Association and will be honored at the Doubletree Hotel in Sacramento on June 17.
Turlock High's varsity team was coming off back-to-back losses last week in the Boras Baseball Classic, but they shrugged that off and bounced back to start off spring break with a victory on Monday afternoon.
For the fifth consecutive season, the Turlock High varsity boys tennis team are the Central California Conference Champions. The Bulldogs secured the title after sweeping Pitman, 5-4, in the CCC finale Thursday for an 11-1 league record.
Turlock and Pitman track and field programs are putting in consistent efforts, as the two teams repeated their earlier season success at Wednesday's second Central California Conference Center Meet at Atwater High.
Spring break is just around the corner for local high schools, but before embarking on a loaded schedule of non-league games, the Pitman High varsity baseball team had to face Golden Valley High in a rain-out rescheduled game.
There was a total of 14 high schools that competed in Saturday's Stanislaus County Meet from Johansen High and after the day of swimming concluded Turlock High's boys (238.5) and girls (251) finished in second place, respectively, while the Pitman girls placed fourth.
The first Central California Conference Center meet of the season took place Wednesday, and while plenty of Turlock and Pitman high school stars finished at the top of their races, only the Turlock varsity girls were able to take the top spot.
