In the third and final day of the Denair Holiday Classic varsity boys basketball tournament, the Denair (5-8) Coyotes managed to pick up their second win in three days after defeating Millennium on Saturday, 52-47.
Hilmar (6-3) High senior Alec Cano dropped a game-high 30 points in the second day of the Hilmar Christmas Classic and the Yellowjackets went on to defeat Los Banos, 49-41, on Friday night to secure a spot in the tournament championship game today.
Denair High boys basketball (4-8) went into Friday's matchup against Hughson (6-2) High in the Coyotes' Holiday Classic with the goal of redeeming their loss to the Huskies earlier in the week. However, the game didn't go quite the way the Coyotes were hoping, as Denair failed to produce enough offense behind Isaac Starks' 23 points, 6 steals and 6 rebounds and they lost it at the end, 63-54.
When Turlock Christian (0-8) and Waterford (3-5) High met in day two of the Denair Holiday Classic it was a rematch of former Southern Athletic League opponents and both were eager for the opportunity to compete against a former league rival.
Hilmar High (5-3) went through a rough patch at the Pacific Grove tournament this past weekend, dropping back-to-back games, but the Yellowjackets moved past the minor slump with a big preseason win on Tuesday.
