Delhi defeats Big Valley Christian in convincing fashion

Delhi High wanted the 2013 season to be different; it wanted to taste sustained success on the gridiron and compete for the Southern League title. Last week the Hawks took their first step towards that goal with a shutout victory against Galt High, and then followed it up with a second, more convincing, step on Friday with a 48-18 victory over Big Valley Christian High.

It was a rollercoaster last year in the Central California Conference for local high school volleyball teams. Pitman High blazed through the conference going undefeated with a 15-0 record, while Turlock went 1-13 and struggled with a young team going through a reconstruction phase in coach Amber Castillon's second year.

Hilmar volleyball on hunt for league title

The Hilmar High varsity volleyball team placed second last year in the Trans Valley League with a 10-2 record; but this year they return with a vengeance with one goal in mind - dethroning Escalon. The Cougars were last year's conference champions, finishing with an undefeated record of 12-0.

Small school woes: No boys soccer for TC in 2013

Like many small schools, Turlock Christian High has had its fair share of problems when it comes to student enrollment and athletics. Typically, the resulting effect of low roster numbers is a decreased level of competiveness but other measures-such as the elimination of junior varsity programs- have also been taken in years past.

Case Hirdes continues family rodeo legacy

Case Hirdes' veins pump rodeo blood. The Turlock teenager has been enthralled with the sport and the lifestyle since as long as he can remember; following the dusty boot prints of his grandfather Les, father Ed and brother Blake. While his high school peers focused on sports like baseball and football, Hirdes soaked up all things rodeo as he competed in both amateur and high school competitions.

Cerah Moren takes first in javelin, fourth in discus at USA Youth Championships

Four years ago, Cerah Moren attended the USA Youth Outdoor Championships with a broken arm and, understandably, left the competition with less than stellar results. Since then, the young Turlocker healed, continued with her track and field training, and picked up new skills and abilities that many girls her age do not have.

Denair tennis bests RC

Not even a car crash could keep Brian Dudley and Andrew Knapp, Denair tennis' number one and two singles players, from seeking retribution against league juggernauts Ripon Christian on Friday. The two Coyote players were involved in a head-on collision on their way to the match, but still managed to make it to the courts where they won their matches in the 7-2 effort over the Knights.

Pitman pitches shutout in third straight game

Pitman High thoroughly beat Merced High on the baseball diamond Monday afternoon in the Pride's second Central California Conference game of the season. Four days removed from beating Golden Valley High 8-0, Pitman again pitched a shutout as they handed Merced its third consecutive loss by a score of 10-0.
