Delhi wrestling still growing

Three years ago Ray Cedres and Delhi High School decided it was time to breathe new life into a defunct wrestling program. After nearly seven years without wrestling as an athletic option, the Hawks are making strides, slowly but surely, down the road of reconstruction. Delhi enters this season with 11 wrestlers on the roster, a seemingly small number but enough to get head coach Cedres excited.

TC's Halie Bergman signs with UOP

Ask any Southern Athletic League athlete who Halie Bergman is and they're bound to know the answer. With only a season and a half under her belt, Turlock Christian High's Bergman has created a reputation of basketball dominance; scoring 969 career points and averaging 24.2 points, 3.65 assists, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.1 steals a game.

Eagles claim Div VI section title

The girls of Turlock Christian High's volleyball team enjoyed an early Christmas on Thursday, earning the second section title in the program's history with a four set defeat of Roseville's Valley Christian High. The Eagles beat the Lions 3-1 (25-8, 23-25, 25-16, and 25-22) in the Division VI championship match at UC Davis in a final hurrah for three seniors and an impressive benchmark for first year head coach Ken Wynne.

Chase Gonzalez selected for national All-Star game

Turlock Christian High's quarterback of the last three years, 17-year-old Chase Gonzalez, has been selected from a pool of more than 4,200 high school seniors to compete in the annual Blue-Grey National All Star Classic in Tampa Bay, Fla. on Jan. 12, 2013. Gonzalez is one of 90 seniors selected for the game and will join the North squad behind center.

Turlock Christian volleyball advances to Div. VI final

For the first time in six years Turlock Christian High is headed to UC Davis for the Division VI SJS Final. The Eagles earned their shot at championship glory with a 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-11, and 25-22) victory over Sac Country Day High on Tuesday.

Turlock’s Tyler Murphy signs with St. Mary’s

Tyler Murphy has had a love affair with baseball since he was old enough to grip a bat and toss a ball. Murphy began his journey with America's game at the age of three when his parents signed him up for tee ball. Fifteen years later, Murphy's journey continues with Tuesday's signing of his letter of intent to play for St. Mary's College.

Bulldogs fall short in D2 section final

Few gave Turlock High's boys soccer team a fighting chance against the undefeated Bella Vista High Broncos in Saturday's Division II SJS Section final match, but for more than an hour and a half of play the Bulldogs proved their appearance at Lincoln High was no fluke.

Pitman tramples Tokay, advances to 2nd round

Pitman High's Brent Nelle knew that Friday's Division I SJS matchup against Tokay High would probably be his last at Joe Debely Stadium. For four years he had ran up and down the field; making defenders miss, scoring touchdowns, and padding his yardage into the thousands -Friday was a chance to go out with a bang.

Thrilling comeback over Folsom earns Turlock chance at Div. II Title

For the first time since the regular season ended, Turlock High's future looked bleak Wednesday night. After keeping their opponents off the scoreboard on their way to the Division II SJS semi-final match, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing Folsom High 1-0 with less than 10 minutes left in regulation.

TC slays Titans in three

Sarah Amaral and her Eagle teammates stepped onto their home court for the first round of the Division VI SJS Playoffs Thursday night with typical post-season expectations. They expected support from their fans, a formidable opponent in Lodi Academy High, and, above all else, they expected to win.

Hawks lose chance at finals with sudden death penalty kick

After a long battle ending in two 10 minute overtimes and additional penalty kicks, the Delhi Hawks lost their chance to make the finals, and clench the Division V SJS Section Championship. The Hawks faced the Riverbank Bruins at Riverbank High, and kept up a tie 1-1 game throughout the entire match beginning from the first half.

Sonora ends Hilmar's playoff run

Two days after defeating Los Banos High in a tight, five set, first-round playoff match, Hilmar High's girls endured another grueling five set match against Sonora High. Unlike their victory against the Tigers, the Yellowjackets fell one set short against the Wildcats (19-25, 26-24, 25-23, 21-25, and 12-15), leading to an early exit from the Division IV SJS Tournament.

Pride meet their match in Broncos

Pitman High found itself in unfamiliar territory Tuesday night when it hosted Bella Vista High in the first round of the Division I SJS Playoffs. The two time Central California Conference champions, who are accustomed to dominating their opponents on the court, met their match in the Broncos. Bella Vista turned the tables and earned a straight set victory (20-25, 20-25, and 22-25) over the Pride.

Connor, Ford advance to cross country Section Championships

After a long and arduous cross country season, Turlock and Pitman High will each have one representative at Saturday's SJS Division II Section Championship race at Willow Hills Park in Folsom. Bulldog Logan Connor and Pride Jami Ford qualified for the race with impressive performances at the SJS Sub-Sections, finishing 55th and 43rd in their classes, respectively.

Turlock's Johns moves into singles finals

Turlock and Pitman high each had multiple singles players compete on Tuesday in the opening rounds of the Central California Conference girls tennis singles tournament in Atwater. However, only Turlock's number one singles player, Mila Johns, swept through her opponents and is now moving on to Thursday's championship match against Golden Valley's Dani Vigil.

Bulldogs golf claim CCC championship, again

For the 11th season in a row, Turlock High has finished Central California Conference competition as champions in girls golf. The Bulldogs cemented their place as 2014 CCC title holders by shooting a 448 at Monday's CCC Championships in Atwater-86 strokes ahead of second place Pitman High.
