Rotary Baseball Classic features nine local players

The best junior and senior baseball players Stanislaus County has to offer are set to compete in the 23rd annual Modesto Sunrise Rotary Baseball Classic today at John Thurman Field in Modesto. Nine players from the Turlock area will participate in today's All-Star game, representing Turlock High, Pitman High, and Turlock Christian High. The Pride will also be represented by Mick Tate and his staff who were selected to coach the West team.

Lindy Avila's time at Turlock High has come to an end but her academic and athletic careers are far from over. After a highly competitive senior season on the court, Avila is set join William Jessup University's women's basketball team. She will be the sole incoming freshman on the squad.

TC’s Chase Gonzalez selected for national super football combine

Last year Turlock Christian's Chase Gonzalez suffered a mid-season collar bone injury, forcing the Eagle's starting quarterback to miss half of the season's scheduled games. Gonzalez didn't let his injury keep him down, though, as he returned to finish the final few games under center and end the season with 1,588 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in his second year as a varsity player.

THS wrestlers prepare for national freestyle event

This year's wrestling season was one to remember for Turlock High. The Bulldogs finished with an undefeated league record, a CCC Championship, a Division I South Championship, and sent four wrestlers to the State Tournament. Freshman Isaac Bertalotto and sophomore Albino Orozco played a big part in Turlock's successful season, proving that a young team and a championship team weren't mutually exclusive.

Yellowjackets stung by Escalon in Section final

Hilmar struck first - plating a run in the top of the third inning - but Trans-Valley League rival and defending state champion Escalon was up to the task, scoring two runs in the fourth inning and hanging on for the win.

Local athletes record personal bests at Masters

Turlock, Pitman and Hilmar High each saw its track season come to an end at the SJS Masters tournament in Elk Grove last Thursday. A combined nine athletes from the three schools competed in various events throughout the day, with a majority competing in the girls division.

Second half comeback lifts Pride over Knights

Pitman High entered Friday's home game against Downey High with a team characterized by its youth.
