In their first postseason appearance in over a decade, Delhi High's softball team will advance to the semi-finals and are now just two wins away from the Division VI Sac-Joaquin Section Softball Tournament title. Delhi took down Golden Sierra High, 3-0, at the Lodi Softball Complex on Wednesday.
It's a wrap for Hilmar High's girls soccer team after Wednesday's semi-final loss to Liberty Ranch High in this season's Division V Sac-Joaquin Section playoff tournament. The reigning Trans Valley League champion Yellowjackets and reigning Sierra Valley League champion Hawks played it tight during the first half of the match, but a pair of mental lapses in the second half spelled doom for Hilmar as its girls fell 3-1 and watched their season end abruptly.
A combined total of 25 athletes from Delhi, Denair, Hilmar and Turlock Christian competed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Track and Field Division IV-V finals at Sierra High School in Manteca on Thursday. Although local athletes fell short of the gold, many notched respectable finishes.
Pitman High faced off against Tokay High in the first round of the Division I Sac-Joaquin Section Baseball playoffs at Zupo Field in Lodi on Monday. The Pride shutout the Tigers, 7-0, and will advance on to the next round for the first time since being knocked out of the tournament in the first round the last two years.
For the third year in a row, Denair High has claimed a Southern Athletic League title in track and field. In 2011 the boys earned the league crown only to be followed by the Lady Coyotes who earned their championship last season. Now, the boys are back, taking the SAL title with 152 points while the ladies finished in second with 116 points.
Turlock and Pitman High's track and field teams continued their campaign of success this year at the Central California Conference Championship meet on Friday in Atwater. The Pride and Bulldogs have a combined 36 representatives-23 from Pitman and 13 from Turlock- competing in the Division I SJS trials today at Elk Grove High.
Turlock High's Teo Chiesa and Hayden Sparks represented the Bulldogs in Monday's Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. Chiesa finished the day with a 71 and Sparks finished with a score of 77.
Hailee Baldwin was the lone ranger representing Pitman High at the Division I Sac-Joaquin Section finals on Saturday. The Pitman High senior performed exceptionally well as she finished seventh in the individual medley with a personal best of 2:08.09 and finished third in the 100 breast stroke with a personal best of 1:03.68.
Turlock High's insanely successful 2013 baseball campaign came to a close on Wednesday with a 9-4 victory over rival Pitman High in the final Central California Conference game of the season. The Bulldogs fended off a late comeback rally from the Pride to become the program's first team to finish with an undefeated league record-an added bonus to their CCC championship and a consecutive win streak record 25 games strong.
Hilmar High hosted Calaveras High on Thursday in the first round of the Division V Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. In their seventh consecutive postseason appearance, the Yellowjackets defeated the Redskins, 5-2, to advance for the second round of the playoffs.
The Central California Conference swimming trials ended Friday at Tokay High, with two Pitman girls making it into today's finals.
Turlock High placed fifth at Tuesday's Division I Sac-Joaquin Section South boys golf tournament, just outside of the qualifying mark of the top four for teams. Teo Chiesa and Hayden Sparks both qualified for the individual Masters as they both shot a 76 to place them in the fourth and fifth seed.
