Turlock soccer falls in league opener

Turlock High experienced a rude awakening Wednesday night in its Central California Conference home opener against Atwater High. The Falcons managed to do to the Bulldogs what none of the CCC teams were able to do last season-beat them.

Ladies on the hunt for soccer glory

Last year Hilmar High's girls posted an undefeated, championship season in the Trans Valley League and earned a playoff berth despite having a fairly young team. Now, the Yellowjackets are back on the soccer field with an aim for another TVL championship and a section title appearance-goals they plan on achieving through experience this time around.

Turlock's Bertalotto finishes 8th in second State bid

Isaac Bertalotto became the fourth sophomore in Turlock High's history to claim a medal at the California High School State Finals on Saturday. With a tournament record of 5-3 and an 8th place finish, Bertalotto joined the company of Fabian Garcia, Brandon Egleston, and Lewis Gonzales-his cousin-as the youngest Bulldogs to ever place at the State Tournament.

Turlock, Pitman expect another close season on the soccer field

Last year Turlock and Pitman High's girls had a season to remember in the Central California Conference. After a tight, three game series the Bulldogs emerged as undefeated CCC Champions having edged their rivals out of the honor by a single game. Both teams continued playing into the post-season, but while Pitman fell in the first round Turlock orchestrated a memorable playoff run that ultimately ended at the hands of Franklin High of Elk Grove in the Division I San Joaquin Section semi-finals.

Cash for treys

Lori Crivelli presented a check to Turlock High boys basketball team captains DaShawn Holcombe and Austin Bush on Friday as part of Crivelli Insurance Services' 3 for $3, a program that pays for each three-point shot the Bulldogs make through the season. This year's payout was $39 more than last year's.

Friday proved to be the end of the road for Turlock Christian High's boys basketball team. The Eagles (13-16 overall, 7-7 SAL) failed to carry Wednesday's energy into Friday's matchup with Faith Christian High and lost 65-60 after a failed fourth quarter comeback.

First round loss for Bulldogs

Turlock High's hopes for a Division I Sac Joaquin Section title were dashed Wednesday night in Elk Grove when the Bulldogs (17-11 overall, 7-3 CCC) faced Franklin High. After a lack luster first half, Turlock climbed its way back into the game but was ultimately unable to overcome Wildcats. The final score read 67-65.

TC boys notch playoff win

It was a joyful day for Turlock Christian High's boys basketball team Wednesday night when they hosted Lodi Academy High in the first round of the Sac Joaquin Section Division VI playoffs. The Eagles (13-15 overall, 7-7 SAL) seized the moment in front of an enthusiastic home crowd and walked away from the court with a 70-53 victory and the first post-season win in eight years for TC boys basketball.

Four Pride athletes secure collegiate careers

Four more Pitman High athletes will soon be joining the collegiate ranks after signing letters of intent on Tuesday. Quentin Hernandez, Cristian Clementi, Gilbert Valadez and Angel Velasquez each put ink to paper in front of friends and family for their individual colleges as Hernandez signed on to play football for George Fox University in Oregon and Clementi, Valadez and Velasquez signed on to wrestle for Grand Canyon University in Arizona, Luther College in Iowa and Northern Illinois University, respectively.

Bulldog soccer falls in first round

Turlock High girls soccer owned the 2015 season as far as the Central California Conference was concerned, edging out Merced High in a tight race for first place en route to the Bulldogs' fourth consecutive league championship. That momentum was put to a halt immediately in the post season, however, when Turlock traveled to Bella Vista High on Tuesday for the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Tournament.

3 local golfers move on to Master's

Local golfers represented their schools well at CIF Sac-Joaquin Divisional Tournaments on Monday, with Turlock Christian placing third in the Division VI tournament and Turlock High taking fourth in Division I competition. Hilmar's Landon Azevedo, Turlock's Logan Adams and Turlock Christian High's Logun Lundquist will all advance to the Master's level after notching qualifying scores in their respective tournaments.

Turlock tennis advances in playoffs

Monday marked the start of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs for local high school tennis teams that included Delhi, Denair, Pitman and Turlock High. All but Turlock fell in the opening round after the Bulldogs edged out the visiting Folsom Bulldogs, 6-3, on Tuesday in a comeback victory.

Denair High tennis head coach Bill Weber has his sights set on a long and prosperous future the Coyote program and he is off to a good start. After Friday's Southern Athletic League tournament, Denair can boast two league winners in the mixed doubles and the boys singles brackets.

Pitman finishes series with Turlock 2-1

Turlock High won the final game of its three-game series with rival Pitman High Friday afternoon, beating the Pride 8-3 after falling 0-7 on Tuesday and 5-6 on Thursday. But while Pitman walked away from Turlock's home field in the loser's column on Friday, its boys exited the week as winners, at least partially, of the Central California Conference with only one win needed to claim the outright championship.

Hilmar’s Jacob Ahid signs with CSU Monterey Bay

Hilmar High's Jacob Ahid has been a small-town, valley boy all his life. He's developed as a baseball player from child to adolescent, but for the next step in his baseball career Ahid will be leaving Hilmar and heading to Seaside where he will become the newest addition to California State University, Monterey Bay.
