Wednesday marked the beginning of spring sports for a large portion of the Pitman girls basketball team after losing to the sixth-seeded Bella Vista in the first round of the Division II Sac-Joaquin Section tournament, 57-32.
Due to a lack of varsity play from many of the up and coming players, Turlock baseball head coach Mark de la Motte is now boasting probably his most inexperienced team to-date, but it might not all be bad, considering they compete in an always interesting Central California Conference and return a few of the area's top hitters.
While a number of Turlock and Pitman high varsity wrestlers did well at the Sac-Joaquin Divisional tournament held at Lincoln High in Stockton this past weekend, only one local athlete came home a champion - the Pride's Adam Velasquez (120).
Friday marked a historic day for both Turlock and Pitman High's athletic programs. For the first time in their history, they met on the basketball court for a playoff game in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division I opening round.
