Turlock's love of football came long before Tom Brandstater and Colin Kaepernick went from hometown heroes to NFL quarterbacks. Turlock native and former sports editor Richard Paolinelli knows in high school football, every fourth quarter comeback, rivalry matchup and playoff run is important to the players and fans. Paolinelli pays tribute to Turlock's Friday night warriors in his new book "From the Fields: A History of Prep Football in Turlock."
After resurrecting the program at Hilmar High back in 2009, head coach Howie Tremble has been gradually working towards improving and growing the team. His efforts have paid off and this year's Yellowjacket roster is almost double last year's team.

Another Turlocker will soon get the chance to work coaching great Jim Harbaugh. Turlock Christian football coach Jake Von Scherrer was selected to be one of 100 guest coaches from around the country to appear at the first annual Jim Harbaugh Michigan Wolverine Football Camp for High School.
Sergio Hernandez was known in the Southern Athletic League for the past three years as Delhi High's hard-hitting middle linebacker. He was a core component of the 2014 Hawks squad that made the playoffs for only the third time in school history. After Monday, however, Hernandez will also be remembered as the first football player in school history to receive an athletic scholarship with the singing of his letter of intent to play Division III football for Illinois College.
Local track and field athletes represented their respective schools well at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Master's trials and finals last Thursday and Friday, with top showings from Turlock, Hilmar and Pitman High.
