Lady Hawks striving for unity

The volleyball team at Delhi High School faces many challenges each year in the Southern Athletic League. In terms of competition, Ripon Christian High poses the greatest test for the Lady Hawks but there are other obstacles that Delhi and third year head coach Adriana Nunez must overcome. Lack of height is certainly an important one but for Nunez the most difficult task has been instilling a sense of commitment and dedication in her team.

But sometimes those worries don't exist; sometimes the tides align in a way that seems almost too perfect. Such is the case for this year's Turlock High girls golf team.

Bulldogs take down Wildcats in home field win

The Turlock Bulldogs and Sonora Wildcats met on the gridiron for the first time in 23 years on Friday, where they traded shots and lit up the scoreboard at Joe Debely Field. After an underwhelming performance against Oakdale High a week ago Turlock bounced back, unleashing a multitude of weapons in a 432-yard offensive effort that resulted in a 35-27 victory for the Bulldogs (1-1).

Pitman, Turlock runners ready to go the distance

It was sunny but the occasional breeze helped lessen the heat on Wednesday at Donnelly Park. Still, there was no avoiding sweat and fatigue as runners from Turlock and Pitman High took three laps around the park for the Cross County Turlock Scrimmage.

Hilmar’s boys working their way up

A second place Trans Valley League finish and a first round playoff appearance were the fruits of Hilmar High's boys soccer team's labor last season but for head coach Louie Bettencourt and his players it wasn't enough. Now, with four returning starters, the Yellowjackets are back and ready to take another crack at the TVL championship.

Pride volleyball champs return for another title run

Pitman High made history last season, earning its first Central California Conference volleyball championship since the school's induction. After sending several players from last season's team to collegiate programs the Pride are back with another talented cast on the court and they're thinking repeat.

Hilmar High's volleyball team is back and, for the first time in a long time, the Yellowjackets have height on their side. After tying with Ripon High for second place in the Trans Valley League last season, Hilmar is on a mission for first place and its girls have the weapons to achieve.

Bulldogs volleyball looks to bounce back to winning ways

Turlock High's volleyball team returns with three experienced starters this season, one for each Central California Conference match the team won last year. Those Bulldogs - Courtney Crivelli, Sarah Day, and Amy Chiesa - are second year head coach Amber Castillon's foundation for 2012 as Turlock attempts to turn the corner after two less than stellar seasons.

Hilmar blasts Livingston in football opener

Corey Bayer, Tyler Freitas, Victor Teixeira, and John Brindeiro led Hilmar High onto the football field for the first time in eight months on Friday. The Yellowjacket captains stared down their Livingston High opponents from the 50 yard line, they were ready to get the game started and so was everyone in attendance.

Pride soccer prepares for season with home tourney

Pitman High didn't have the boys soccer season it had hoped for in 2011, but head coach Oscar Mercado and his new squad isn't dwelling on that fact. What they are doing is learning from last season's mistakes and forging a new path for the Pride, one rooted in youth and, hopefully, headed towards the post-season.

Turlock baseball looks to repeat as league champs; Pitman ready to compete with deep lineup

The Turlock and Pitman baseball programs enter the 2015 season coming from different places - the Bulldogs from earning three league titles in four years and the Pride from a disappointing 8-7 season in 2014 - but both hoping to clinch a top spot in the Central California Conference. Both teams have the potential to reach their shared goal.

Pride field 4 State qualifiers

Pitman High entered the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championships in Stockton on Friday with the aim to match or best its performance from a season ago in which four of its wrestlers qualified for the State Championships. While the Pride fielded the exact same number of qualifiers as last season, Angel Velasquez's (132 pound) championship effort on the mat solidified the 2014-15 season as Pitman's most successful ever. The Pride also put in its best team performance to date with an 8th place finish.

The post season has always been a tough road for local wrestling teams, but with this year's shakeup of the post season format - specifically the inclusion of Folsom and Del Oro High in the new Sac-Joaquin Section Division I AA Championships - that road proved to be even more difficult for Turlock and Pitman High.

TC headed for D-IV semifinals

For the eighth straight year the Turlock Christian High girls varsity basketball team is in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV semifinal round of the postseason after trouncing Freedom Christian on Tuesday night, 66-26.
